The ol'school gamers have ligitimate skills far in advance of our own.

well hanging around on the net these days makes me feel very 'old school'

i remember when we got our first Com 64 - we had a Star Wars game - you had to navigate through the Death Star without getting blown up at ever increasing speeds. So simple - the graphics were just coloured lines against a black background.

i remember the first time i beat my brother's score and then my dad's - I caught the bug and that was it!

Sorry, but the damage has already been done Rudd. Not even Lazurus can help most of the societies that have gone out of existence now

The thing is that people aren't worried by the fees when they are there, they just weren't interested enough to join if it isn't compulsory.

In other news, I have just written up a regional report for our embassies

Quote:

Regional Update (24th August 2008):

Thought it was about time to post an update, although not much is really happening to warrant an update . . .

NS Related News

As of August 24th, the population of Australia is 180 nations, with Ashmore still WA delegate. Ashmore has enjoyed a solid year as regional delegate, and is still going strong. During his reign, we've seen through many different changes to NS, including the change from "United Nations" to "World Assembly". We have also seen intermittent returns by our founder Cremorne, but unfortunately not for too long. With the introduction of a self-ressurrection option made available on the log on page, it would seem inevitable that there will be many more returns in the not-so-distant future.

In sad news, we have lost many long term members along the way post-democracy. The nations that have ceased to exist include: Reubenlucy, Westaway, Didjawannanotherbeer (former president), Anarchuslavia, and Retirement Villas. Significant losses of former delegates and admin members Reubenlucy, Westaway, and Retirement Villas have left gapping holes in the regional experience that may never be completely filled. This leaves myself (Bogans and Boozers), Schnapps Drinkers, and Ashmore as the last of the 'Old Guard' remaining in the region.

Forums Related News

Due to the failure of democracy in the region, and the mass exodus because of the words and deeds that occurred within parliament, party politics and parliament itself were completely abolished, in favour of a Town Hall model, which was suggested by Sypons. At this stage, the council consists of the admin and mod team, where members are chosen on the basis of merit and input into the region. Recently, Ninjapenguin and Sypons have been appointed as moderators for the goodwill they have been able to promote within the region and the forums. Ninjapenguin has also been annointed as the next member to be given admin powers for her good work on the forums. We are still slowly working towards refining the Town Hall modell, but we are all confident it will work.

Continuing the trend of naming forums after former members, the Front has been renamed the DocMania Memorial bar after the former ADF leader and Minister for Alcohol and Gaming, DocMania. The Town Hall has also been renamed after former Delegate, Prime Minister, and Admin, Westaway. There are plans to rename other forums after former members, more when news comes to hand.

The Entertainment and Philosophical Lounges, and the DocMania Bar have been the most popular forums, with people discussing a wide range of topics, from the essence of reality, through to Voluntary Student Unionism in the RL universities in Australia.

That is all for now,

B&B

In particular for today's random thought is the following:

Any thoughts on possible renamings?

I was thinking the Member's Lounge after Reubenlucy, seeing that he was using it the most . . .

Reub's Flat?

I seem to remember didja using that name once or twice.

I think perhaps its time for me to try and drum up some new membership around here again. Leave it with me and I'll work on something.

I have noticed that there's a few absentees since I've been back, Reubs being one of them.

I like it B&B - no one better suited to having the Lounge named after them than Reubs

How about I resurrect the caption competition? I'm working on a new question set for a new game of deforesetation(or perhaps reforestation, I haven't decided yet).

Also I'm going to start making threads of the regional boards discussions to encourage people to spill over to here.

You will find the caption competition in the Good News Week forum, if you don't mind rejuvenating the GNW forum, Sypons (I'm out of ideas).

I'll work on starting the rejuvenation of the Whose Line forum . . . eventually . . .

B&B: love the new names.

Gipps: I think I put one in the forum guide. Checking now. Perhaps we need a way to make that more prominent? Perhaps a separate forum for newcomers? I think that one needs a bit more thought though.

i agree, you don't want to re-invent the wheel and you guys already do a heck of a lot to keep this place ticking over for the few of us who frequent this message board

i'm all for parring down and focusing our energy on keeping a few areas alive and kicking rather than spreading things out too thinly

regarding NS2 - I've reserved my username for its imminent launch

1. will NS1 continue?
2. will current overlords of regions be able to reserve the same region in NS2?

Well I think that we can safely say that if B&B wants to be the founder then everyone will be fine with it. Also I'm pretty sure NS1 is continuing.

Well we can keep these areas alive fine. However if we want new stuff then I think that we need some new people.

No issues there. I rememer Reubs being the instigator of a lot of sordid things there (when this forum was hosted on someone else's bandwith some time ago). No issues with B&B being founder either.
