I can't remember it ever not being a joke.

that's the beauty of it

But when a once great musical institution becomes a joke...

I don't know that it's ever been quite that. It's certainly be a launching pad for some musicians (Celine Dione, ABBA,etc) but generally right from the start its been like a schlock horror film set to music

The comedy, the passion, the fact that the performers (no matter how awful) take themselves so seriously, makes for brilliant tv viewing particularly when commentated by that dry-humoured, acidly sarcastic English guy (can't remember his name)

Take it seriously and it would be torture

Yes, that's me in a toga.
Molvania, of course, is a fictitious country, which Santo, Tom Gleisner and Rob Sitch refers to in a mock travel guide that takes the piss out of Lonely Planet.

I still remember Israel's entry about a decade ago. Dana International was a stunning transexual singer (can't remember if she could actually sing) who caused controversy at home and abroad with some of the more conservative elements in society, for obvious reasons. The next year she presented the Eurovision trophy to the winning group (I forget who it was).

I don't know whether she was really drunk, really high or both, but she cradled the trophy in her arms and went forward to present it when she tripped over herself and squashed it. Hilarious!

Eurovision is very cheesy rather than joke. Kinda like 80s music.

i'm off both for the moment....its just peppermint tea but i like that and its a natural stimulant

i love coffee and tea but have had to detox off it, having too much - the withdrawals were brutal!

luckily i don't mind good quality decaf so i can still enjoy my vanilla lattes occasionally

What is peppermint tea? For that matter what is the deal with all these herbal teas? Are there any tea leaves inside, or is it just peppermints (or herbs)?

Also, I wonder who came up with the idea of using tea leaves to make a drink?

Planet Tea

Genuine herbal teas are:

- not what you find in Woolies
- the dried leaves of real herb plants (eg. peppermint plant, not minties!)
- should be brewed in an infuser, not teabags
- very good for your health if used correctly - be careful, they can be potent!
- available in good health food shops, loose leaf in bulk or packaged

Peppermint tea is one of the herbal teas that has the potential to be mildly addictive as there is something in peppermint oil that humans crave.

I love it and drink a tonne of it, its a natural stimulant, good for the skin and cleansing the liver. Not hocus pocus, genuine good stuff.

Who decided to eat the leaves of a letuce plant, the root of a carrot plant or the wierd phalic shaped part of a banana plant.

Who decided to squeeze the dangly bits under a cow, let it go off, seperate the hard stuff and make cheese?

Necessity is the mother of invention. Someone had to take the step towards doing something that might appear or be stupid initially, but would have practical applications for human civilisation, or at least for parts of it.

Who decided to mix the cocoa beans with milk to make the chocolate we know and love today?

Who decided that smoking plant material (tobacco or otherwise) would provide stimulation and pleasure?

Who decided that faeces would assist in the cultivation of agriculture?

Who decided that plant material was edible, given our primal urge to hunt and kill things for food?

There's every possibility that in some time in the future (hopefully a long way off into the future), people will ask "Who decided that soylent green was a viable, practical and ethical solution to world hunger back in the old days?"
