S. Korea to Begin Constructing Aegis Destroyer Next Month SEOUL, Aug. 11 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's Navy said Wednesday that it will begin constructing its first 7,000-ton-class Aegis-equipped destroyer as part of a three-phased naval force improvement program. The vessel will be the first of three Aegis-equipped destroyers which the South Korean Navy will develop by 2012 under a program code-named KDX-III, the Navy said in a news release. ************************************** Hyundai has won the first ship contract. Daewoo is objecting to the fairness of the competition, so they'll fight for the 2nd and 3rd ships as well. They're already in heavy competition for the submarine and KDX-2 programs. Looks like Hyundai has delivered big blow this time. |

KJlost, any words on 'nuclear powered container cargo ship'? About a year ago, I heard S.K govnt was planning to develope a HUGE and fast cargo ship that can across pacific ocean in 4 days. Size of that ship was supposed to be 80mx400m. Other countries tried nuclear powered cargo ship (like German, US, Japan) but other countries harbor didnt allow them to enter. If S.K persue this project, then I guess its main purpose is using that ship as Carrier not cargoship. (like several years ago, S.K tried to buy carrier from Russia then sold it to China due to Japan's complaining, and US's pressure) |
