This is where you help your peers with the mistakes you come across in the forum. * If you do not have the required knowledge or articulateness to explain the mistake, either refer to a grammar book first or not do it at all. This is an example: I (AM/AM not agree) with my brother. I (agree/do not agree) with my brother. * Explanation: “agree” is a main verb, not an adjective. |

Here I only can be corrected, and when you correct me, please tell you're correcting me. |

I don't think that people accept the fact that life doesn't make sense. I think it makes people terribly uncomfortable. Life is very, very complicated and so films should be allowed to be too. We think we understand the rules when we become adults but what we really experienced is a narrowing of the imagination. David Lynch | |

INCORRECT Please [TELL] you're correcting me. CORRECT 1. Please SAY (that) you're correcting me. 2. Please TELL ME (that) you're correcting me. The verb "tell" is normally followed by a "human object" (without to) Examples: * She wants to tell me/him/her/us/Ali/Joe/... about the new film. * Henry told me/his father/George/... that he wouldn't be in class today. The verb "say", however, is not used like this. Look at the following examples: INCORRECT: [Say me]. What is it? Are you goning to [say anybody] about it? I don't want to [tell] anything. Don't tell [to] me. CORRECT: Say it to me. What is it? Are you goning to say anybody about it? I don't want to tell anything. Don't tell me. The verbs "say" and "tell" are also used in collocations: Examples: Say goodbye/hello. (NOT tell) Tell a lie/story. (NOT say) Visit this for further help: http://faculty.washington.edu/marynell/grammar/tellsay.html |

That was really a good lesson, but I'm going to stick with my previous one, cuz it's shorter. |

Hey folks! I just realized that Mr. Vahedi is NOT a teacher-born. No offense, though, since he is a born teacher. It doesn't sound right? I doubted it as well until I checked it up in the dictionary. Here's the introduction: We use -born as a suffix either when we're talking about the place in which someone is born or the order of his /her birth. For example: new born, the first-born son, a Nigerian-born poet, etc. But in case of speaking about having a natural ability or tendency, it is vice versa: a born writer/athlete |

INCORRECT: I won’t come next Wednesday. CORRECT: I’m not coming next Wednesday. Use “to be doing” or “to be going to do” for future plans, which you have decided before and use “will do” to talk about decisions made right at the moment of speaking. Examples: I’m going out with my friends tomorrow. The phone's ringing? Ok, I’ll get it. |

Miss Chaichian would you explain more about this: natural-born ■ adjective having a specified innate characteristic or ability. ▶archaic having a position by birth. Could we say He's a natural-born teacher? |
