A slight computer upgrade...![]() Cooler Master HAF case. Lots of room for everything. Very big though. EVGA Supernova 850 G3 power supply. Lots of overhead for future upgrades! This PSU is also fully modular, and has 8-pin ports galore. ASUS Crosshair VI Hero motherboard. One of the best on the market, and brand loyalty is a thing. I just need more USB ports inside, so I will need to buy an internal USB splitter. AMD Ryzen 7 1800X CPU. 8 cores, with two threads per core, at 3.6 GHz! And it's easily overclocked to 4.0GHz or more if I need more power! And the 14nm fabrication means all of this uses less power than the old CPU! ASUS NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080Ti Strix Gaming graphics card. Basically the current top-of-the-line card. 16GB G.Skill Trident Z DDR4-3200 RAM. Same capacity as before, but twice as fast! We'll see if this needs an upgrade down the line. XSPC Ion water cooling kit. This is an experiment. I have never used water cooling in a computer before. |

If the water cooling is self-contained, I approve. I've used an "assemble your own cooling system" set, which was a friggin' disaster, and currently use a sealed-loop self contained CPU cooler, which is AWESOME. Other than that... wasn't that Graphics card REALLY damn expensive right now? The cryptocurrency miners have been screwing those prices up for a year now... although that MAY be about to relax some. |

I nabbed mine for $800 on Newegg. I don't know how I got it at that price, because most of that level are at least 50% more. My tech-savvy brother-in-law reports that not only are miners gobbling up the graphics cards, but there was a bottleneck in the component supply chain that restricted access to a key component, perhaps the RAM. I can't remember the exact cause. But supply is also down, exacerbating the high demand price pressure. The water cooling system is a kit, not a pre-manufactured self-contained unit, but it ran for almost 24 hours leak-free outside the case in test mode before I installed it. No issues yet inside the case... Edited by Lord Tothe, 4 Feb 2018, 09:26.

Oh, and one minor detail in addition: I bought everything with Bitcoin on the dead cat bounce to $17000 before it started to plummet! Newegg accepts Bitcoin directly, and Amazon gift cards can be bought with Bitcoin as well! |

Nicely done! I've never messed with buying and selling bitcoin and the like. I might have to, but it's serious gambling... don't enter that market with anything you're not willing to lose. |

I certainly agree with caution. I have placed zero dollars into crypto. Everything I have was gained though my blog on Steemit. Most people blog for free, use Google ad revenue, or shill online products shamelessly. Steemit is a blockchain-linked blog that pays cryptocurrency according to how much people upvote your posts, and your own upvote boosts payout to those you upvote. Apparently people value it enough to boost the value of Steem to the point where I could buy a computer with my magical internet money! I just had to use an exchange to convert Steem to Bitcoin. |
