I am here seeking diplomatic relations as a citizen of your former ally Sapientia. Please allow me to bribe you all with some nice warm hot chocolate spiked with Imperial brandy. ![]() Now that we have that out of the way, let me tell you a bit about our region. We are old. Like really old. Not quite as old as you geezers here at AWP, but pretty old in terms of NationStates. Our founder and subsequently many of our most stalwart nations had ceased to exist over the years, but many of us have returned in some capacity as of late. In our previous lives we were a nation that stood on the border of neutrality and defending, and held minor ties with yourselves and the FRA. I don't know if anyone here remembers me or our region, as we have always been fairly minor players in inter-regional politics, but I see many names that I recognize from my previous experience as ambassador to your region and it warms my heart to see that you have prospered in our absence. I cannot promise to you that the Sapientian revival will continue indefinitely, nor can I promise to you that Sapientian politics will resemble our old ways. My only desire is to make this an opening salvo in an effort to bring our regions closer together again. Long Live A World Power! Long Live Sapientia! ![]() (Do I get a more colorful user masking now? Please tell me I do.) |

Nicholas I had no idea Sapientia was back. Coincidentally, I only arrived back here a week ago. Is it fate? Probably. I think Sapientia is actually roughly the same age as AWP. Both were founded in 2007. Diplomats are stuck with the generic Member group for now. I could create a new one, but I don't want to touch anything in the Admin CP at the moment. Maybe when things get more bustling in the Foreign Affairs Department.
If you guys don't recreate the Quintumvirate, you're doing it wrong. |

Nean Er, I mean I had no idea Sapientia was back either until Martin texted me out of the blue one day probably about a month after everyone else started returning. I told him to text you as well, but he clearly was as belated at informing you as he was with informing me. I wouldn't want to put you out, especially since it's been less than a week you're back. Besides, I have no idea if perhaps there's a cultural reason for not having an ambassadorial group, so I will work within the existing system. Thank you for addressing what you clearly inferred was my most pressing concern though. As for the Quintumvirate, it simply wouldn't be the same without both a Roborussia and a Neanbear serving in it. I don't even see fit to propose it as an option if I can't have you ruling at my side. My current proposal for our interim government is a figurehead monarchy with Fontelian (Sapientia's founder, for others reading this thread) as sovereign and a direct democracy to handle all legislative and judicial matters. As we are currently a small region where every member is trusted by the others, there is no danger in such a system, and it also gives us a vehicle through which to adopt an eventual fully-fledged constitution if we do grow as a region to nearly our former size. There have been proposals to add elected officials to the system as well, but I believe that my system will be implemented as originally envisioned, thus continuing the Sapientian tradition of radical experimentation with unorthodox methods of government. Anyway, enough of the boring substantive things! It's great to be back and even greater to see you back as well. After all, what good is a Sapientian revival if our God is dead?

You are definitely one that I remember as well Numero! It's interesting to me how many of the members I viewed as prominent in the FRA in my previous tenure are still around. Many players have left, but NationStates seems to be growing again and the veterans I've seen returning in your region, my own, and the few others I've visited, have all been the cream of the crop in my opinion. It definitely makes me want to get involved again! Once Sapientia has established a regional government, I intend to raise the question of our place in foreign affairs once more. With our founder being very active again, it makes Sapientia a perfect region to host a military. We have no fear of retribution so we can do whatever we want. Is the FRA still the greatest defender alliance? Does raiding even exist any more? The changes to the system seem to have diminished the payoff for stealing a region's delegacy, so I wouldn't be surprised if it dropped off some. Anyway, I don't mean to grill you on politics while we're waxing nostalgic. As for Nean, he has led a storied second life in Sapientia that I suppose he may not have informed your region of at all. I don't recall the exact origin of it, but I know that early on it was decided for some reason that Nean would be the God of Sapientia's only theistic religion. After that distinction was made, the Sapientian populace also decided that we didn't need a separation of church and state and gave evidence of this by electing Nean to several successive political offices. This included being elected as one of the five omnipotent government officials in our Quintumvirate. He has also had some significant personal moments in Sapientia but I won't be telling those stories for him, not without his consent at least haha.

Did we not used to have an eye-roll emoji? Eh, it honestly surprises me too.
We left the FRA, so obviously not.
Roborussia is my NationStates husband. Govindia also appointed himself best man in our hasty IRC wedding, so it was an interesting experience. Were we one of the first gay NS marriages? I think we should start saying that we were the first. The Sapientian family system has, to me anyway, always existed as a parody of the family systems in other regions who take it too seriously, so I doubt anyone will call us on it. |

We take our families very seriously. Just because Belle Hades is simultaneously our son, my incontinent father, by extension his own grandfather, and also no longer even belongs to my house... OK, you have a point. |

Polls are now open for the first time during the Sapientian revival! There are two issues currently being brought to a vote, one regarding what direction we should take in establishing a new government and the other regarding what direction we should take for our region's cartography. When it comes to government, our options are whether we would like pure "Direct Democracy" or a system with "Elected Officials". So far, purity is winning 6:3 and it is looking like our next government will be primarily a direct democracy with Fontelian, our founder, serving as Monarch (official title TBD). In terms of cartography, our options are to use our old map as we left it and simply update it as necessary (There are hundreds of open spaces remaining despite many having been claimed by nations that have ceased to exist.), to use our old map but erasing all of our old plots and starting over from scratch when it comes to nation placement, or to create an entirely new map. This issue has proven slightly less popular and is currently split 3:2:1 with using the old map and placements winning, but not by a decisive margin. In any case, it is exciting to see progress being made! Sapientians are politicking once more and we shall soon have our first functioning government in years, whatever that may be. |
