The British people will be facing a vote in June whether to leave the EU or not. I am completely torn on what to vote/believe. I've always been rather pro-EU but for the past few months my beliefs have slowly drifted towards the out campaign. However I'm not sure how to vote. So is the UK better in the EU or out? |

I'm not too well versed on the subject, but didn't another larger country have this vote last year as well? I was under the belief that the EU is kind of dragging down the countries with a stronger economy though. I'm interested in the matter as well. |

The EU's done a lot of good (my wife is from the Netherlands, and had no problems moving here thanks to it), but there's also an awful lot that's wrong with it and little desire to fix that. I'm also not decided on how to vote, but I have a strong suspicion that a vote to leave will result in a "better offer" from the EU than the one that's been made, followed by a second referendum. |

The EU needs a major rethink if its going to last, I'm not sure being on the outside looking in is best for British interests though, but currently the appetite to make the necessary reforms doesn't seem to be there. Threatening to leave might be the kick the EU needs to start seriously looking at itself. I expect I'll eventually vote to stay in the EU but it really isn't fulfilling its potential at the moment. |

If leaving the EU speeds up getting rid of Scotland, then I'm all for it >_> |

If the UK votes to stay in the EU, is Boris Johnson's political career done? |

One can only hope so. A lot of people think that beneath the buffoonery he's actually extremely intelligent and calculating. My view is that he actually is a massive idiot, and people only think he's intelligent because that can't conceive of someone being so stupid. Being a David Cameron supporter since he first appeared on the scene, I'd be really disappointed to see his career end with a Boris Johnson takeover. Much as I dislike the EU, I'd rather stay in and have an orderly transition to George Osborne than leave and get BJ. |

Been pretty disappointed with both sides so far, neither really made a case Most of what I've seen has been scaremongering from both sides and faceless organisations saying I should vote this way or that. Not very convincing. A lot of the arguments to leave are inherently flawed, e.g. "It's so much easier to trade globally now that EU trade is less important, it's reduced from 55% of our overall trade to 45%" - yeah because its so much easier to trade globally now, which you already said, what is your point? Equally a lot of the arguments to stay don't seem to have anything to do with whether we should be in it or not, "EU brought peace to Europe" - yeah, and I don't expect we're gonna start bombing them all if we decide not to be part of it "EU has done great work in bringing reforms and human rights to Eastern European countries that lacked them", which I imagine it will continue to do if we're in it or not. "EU gave us this, and that, and these laws" - which we have no reason to revoke or not continue with once we leave, if they're a good idea we'll keep it. From what I know and have seen the key reasons to stay in seem to be: - EU membership doesn't just give use preferential access to EU markets, but has also allowed us to negotiate preferential access to 50 countries outside the EU, including some of the fastest growing economies. We might be able to negotiate deals with some of those countries alone but we won't have the same leverage on our own. - protects regions hit by industrial decline through the use of structural funding that has helped areas such as Cornwall cope with difficult economic conditions. Obviously this works both ways, we give money and the EU has the power to distribute it to areas as it sees fit. So we give up the control and hope we see some money back. But given how bias and unbalanced local government cuts have been, and how poorer areas have generally been hardest hit under the Conservatives, having a neutral party in control of protecting the poorest and most vulnerable areas perhaps isn't such a bad thing. - avoiding customs paperwork, visas etc etc within the EU area is so much better than the alternative, especially for those who have to travel for business or import/export goods Those reasons above and the hassle of leaving are enough reasons for me to vote to stay in the EU but I wish they'd just cut out all the other irrelevant stuff. Either way, reform is needed and the EU probably know it by now |

Voting on this today! The Financial Times poll of polls was showing a 44% average for both sides so is going to be close. There's often a swing to the status quo went it comes to actually voting though |
