Founded in March of 2007, A World Power was once one of the largest regions in Nationstates, and is currently re-building to its former glory! We as a region hold no specific political ideology, but nations organise themselves into Great Houses of likeminded individuals. The leaders of the three largest Houses form a Triumvirate which is responsible for leading the region. We believe in open elections for all citizens of our region and operate a one of the major defender forces in the game, which protects regions across Nationstates from invasion.

Welcome to A World Power!

Our forum acts as the hub of our community, and is where our Government, Citizens Assembly, and Regional Defence Force are coordinated. But it's not all serious business! The legendary Rucket Park is full of polls, spam games and nonsense chat, our Role Playing Pavilion is the place for all your roleplaying needs, and the A World Power Center is where we get to know each other.

Hey guys! I'm Nat, and I'm new here. But I guess you've guessed that already. I read over the Welcome post, and you'll have to accept my apology for not registering with my nation name. I totally must not have seen that when I was registering for the forum and couldn't figure out how to change it afterward, so just point me in the right direction to do that!

But a little about me - I'm 25 (I'm so old D:), a writer and digital marketer, a former political science major and law student, huge fantasy geek, and lover of bad jokes, puns, and pick up lines. I really love talking to people, so please reach out to me! I'm always game for a new friend!

If you have any questions, let me know! I think the next step is for me to register for citizenship, so I"ll go do that :D

Welcome! Which one is your nation? I can get your forum account name changed to that if you want.

25 is still young. Wait until you get to your mid-late twenties - then you'll have to start worrying! What kind of fantasy are you into? (That question sounds so wrong, but try to take it the right way...)

My nation is Inner Horner (lots of cool points for anyone who can name the literary reference. No Google!). If that's a requirement, we can change the name! I like all sorts of fantasy, obviously the biggies like Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Wheel of Time, Dresden, Shannara, etc. But some lesser known works like Westmark by Lloyd Alexander, Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny, and one of my all-time favorites, The Bridge of Birds by Barry Hughart.

Now the other fantasies...at least buy me dinner first!

Hey there! Good to have you with us, I'm a year older than you (and not close to being the oldest here I don't think)

I know there's a few HP geeks and a few ex-politics students in the region so you're amongst friends. Do you work for a digital marketing company or as a specialist within a company? Its an area I've got a bit of experience in and trying to teach myself more

I work as the digital marketing specialist for several companies, sort of on a retainer basis. So...both? I do a little bit of everything: web design, social media, search engines, etc.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm ready to get involved!

Hiya!

Inner Horner - had to google it... but I've never read the source, so I didn't end up feeling bad about having to google it! :P

Age: Um, I'm not quite Twice your age (forty...eight? yeah, 48 in a few months. Yes, I actually have to THINK about it these days), so neither you nor our illustrious leader is close.

Books: I read both SciFi and Fantasy. Dresden is awesome, HP is good. LotR and WoT are both (for different reasons) great worlds which are PAINFUL to read, although I have done so. I haven't read/watched/anythinged Game of Thrones. I don't want to go through WoT thing again, waiting a decade or more for the end of an irregularly-released story. At least Dresden releases new books more or less on schedule. :P

If Chronicles of Amber is lesser-known, then I'm a fogey. ...oh, wait, I am. So, maybe it is. :) Still, I love those books.

More suggested Fantasy: Codex Alera by Jim Butcher (if you like Dresden, you've probably read these); The Discworld novels by the late Terry Pratchett; Lord Darcy books (Magical Mysteries) by Randall Garrett...

Glad to see new people arrive, always! Welcome!

I've read the Butcher and Pratchett, but I'll definitely look up the Lord Darcy books. Thanks for the suggestions!

The source novel has been acclaimed as "this generation's Animal Farm," which is hellishly accurate.

Impressive fantasy list, although I noticed that you left out Doctor Who yet have a Doctor Who related avatar.

Edit: Just saw the Cit app and the Monty Python mentioning. Yeah, you're my friend already.

I do love Doctor Who. I'm a little hesitant to call it fantasy though. More like scifi with low-fantasy elements. But honestly, it's just amazing. I'm glad we're going to be friends!

Interesting. I can open Nat's avatar separately, but it won't display on the forum. Odd.

Dr. Who is SciFi or fantasy in much the same way Star Wars is - it looks a bit sci-fi, it throws around some terms, but nothing in there is in any way based off of any technology we can envision actually being able to make/known laws of physics.

...Star Trek is only trivially better. Engines, photon torpedoes... maybe. Transports are a huge stretch. Phasers - still no. They use nonexistent particles, and pack way more punch than we can currently envision. Deflector shields? Not against magical energy weapons, anyway. :P

Don't get me wrong... I like all three franchises, but they're only loosely scifi. :D

Welcome Welcome!
I'm 22 years old, been a member of AWP and NS since 2008.

I'm a big LoTR fan, I've read all of the books + the Hobbit, tried the Silmarillion but that's a little too dry.

Hello, Nat!
"Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything — you can't conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him." ~ Robert A. Heinlein

Well, my list surely isn't as extensive as yours - mostly Tolkien & Forgotten Realms and a few videogames related. Also you can expect a book in a fantasy setting from me in some time if nothing will go wrong :D

Hey that's great! I'm working on a novel, but it's not fantasy. If you ever want someone to read your work, let me know.

Tolkien is my favorite. The depth of world is just incredible.

Out of curiosity, what is the setting of your novel? Best of luck with it! I'll appreciate any feedback on my work, it'll take some time tho.

It's modern. It's a quasi-paranormal detective story.
