Information:

Founded in March of 2007, A World Power was once one of the largest regions in Nationstates, and is currently re-building to its former glory! We as a region hold no specific political ideology, but nations organise themselves into Great Houses of likeminded individuals. The leaders of the three largest Houses form a Triumvirate which is responsible for leading the region. We believe in open elections for all citizens of our region and operate a one of the major defender forces in the game, which protects regions across Nationstates from invasion.

"Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything — you can't conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him." ~ Robert A. Heinlein

welcome to the new year, it will be the same as the last year, nothing much will change

What, a lot of things will change.

Bill Gates will be poor(er)
Labour will not be in power in Britain, after an entire decade and more.
and... and....that is it.

- Most Nato troops will withdraw from Afghanistan in this decade
- Islamic fundementalism will become increasingly discredited
- US will cease to become the dominant power in the world; British interests will increasingly lie with loyalty to the EU rather than the US
- Turkey and Serbia will become full EU members, widening the scope of the Union and opening up the possibility for membership outside of the continent.
- Brazil will become an important power in the world
- There will be civil war in Uganda
- There will be an unprecedented surge in space programs

My predictions

The decade ends on 30 Dec. 2010. Decades start on Year 1, since there wasn't a Year 0 AD.

Anyhoo, Yes, sadly, most NATO troops will leave Afghanistan this year, since they apparently forgot their Article V declaration that the 9/11 attack, orchestrated from Afghanistan by Al-Qaida and the Taliban, was an attack on all of the alliance and they are obligated to support it when asked. So far it seems only six countries out of the 26 seem to be doing that combat wise :(

Yes

Probably not, but President Obama will show himself to be increasingly weak, foolish, and naive in foreign policy, and eventually will reduce our ability to help secure our interests

Turkey yes in the coming decade, Serbia, no. Serbia still has a lot of issues to deal with re: Bosnia and Kosovo, and I doubt that them insisting Kosovo is theirs will help their case.

India will also be an important power, as economically, militarily, and technologically it is showing. India has a blue water navy, China does not.

Probably, but hopefully the African Union will have more teeth to step in, or at least be a mirror of ECOMOG.

Yes re: space.

My other predictions:

India will have a second aircraft carrier and more ships to its Navy.

India will get a new western aircraft to replace its 126 outdated MiG-21 Fishbeds

Colombia will finally get a handle on its drug problem and tell Hugo Chavez and Venezuela to STFU and GTFO.

The Conservatives will finally come back to power in the UK.

Illegal immigration in the US will cut drastically as stringent measures on the border are taken and the economy tightens in the US.

Pakistan will probably become a failed state, and receive it's sixth military coup to ensure their hold on power in defeating the militant activity in Waziristan.

Decades start whenever you want - they are just a ten year period. ;)

It is true, though, that if you are talking about decades since the beginning of the common era (as most people do), the new decade will technically start next year.

Oh, and space programs - I can't envision an unprecedented surge. Maybe the most since the sixties or seventies, though.

my prediction(s):

Obama will go down as a failure (almost but not quite as bad as Bush) and the Republicans will resume power as what happens every time a party has a bad president

Muslim extremism might disappear (in the West but will always be in the middle east bombing those who arn't extremists) only to herald the rise of the peaceful expansion (see Europe)

Conservatism will be on the rise in the US

A major terror attack will take place (the damed TSA doesn't know what their doing)

Greek he will go down much worse than Bush, for one reason.;

His great speeches impacted America, but his average policies have collapsed it, he built his reputation and what he would do too high, so that now, not producing the results that America wanted.

Muslim extremism won't die, it would take the death of every muslim extremist, one would be able to get enough support to commit terrorist attacks, sad truth.

Conservatism will be on the rise in both America and Britain, also maybe in Germany, Angela Merkel isn't too popular there so maybe, maybe not. In fact most of Europe is either right wing, or becoming more leaned to right winged policies and idealisms, meaning, maybe, a few more right wing parties in Europe, and a few more right wing governments, though, of course, some right wing people will be in trouble with the unpopularity of Governments overall around the world due to the crash, because of the milk the cow while it's ready, idea, which is pretty much not trying to halt a crash coming while in a boom by putting in more regulations.

And yes.

Obama makes an easy scapegoat for those of you in America but the reality is that the rest of us around the world are fed up on pandering to the US policy that doesn't fit in with anyone elses, increasingly world politics are becoming less polarized as more countries outside of the 'West' are building up military, strategic, economic and political power. Put simply, the US' main allies dont need the US anymore, France and Germany have seen that their best interests lie in the EU, Obama is merely trying to retain those friendships by listening to them and trying to align his own policies with theirs.

There is an inevitable decline in US power as the world continues to reshape post-cold war. Whether that decline will be better or worse as a result of Obama's presidency, well, time will tell.

Conservatism won't be on the rise in the UK over the next ten years. In fact a Conservative government next time round could well turn the Tories into the third party in my opinion, he's all spin, no politics, and as soon as campaigns are over and policy calls it will be Thatcher all over again, but without the climate that made her successful.

If the conservatives do turn to the third party who will be the second, there is no one, for you know what Clegg is a walking ape, he has no ideas other than to try and get the polls down for the conservatives, he has done nothing to help the liberal democrats. Also the Lib Dems can only replace Labour, as they are both centre left, who would be the centre right party, and there will always be one.

Cameron has policies, but he is the leader of the opposition, there is no way that he is going to sprout his policies, take his policies on NHS and local Government that he talked about when he first started a few week later the Lib Dems added them to their manifesto and what happened, they claimed them as theirs. You will see his policies when it is too late for Labour to use them, when the manifestos come out, and you will also see that he is saying what he wishes to do with the economy, cut spending, bring down the 200 million a year deficit, which is now relying on the Bank of England buying Government Gilts and increasing inflation, which he doesn't want to do due to what happened in the 90s.

Two Words: NATO commitments.

It may not seem like the EU nations are pandering to the US, but they have NATO commitments they are obligated to fulfill as well :ph43r:

OK, I was only joking when I said they'd become the third party, just a little fantasy of mine :P

Cameron goes on about cuts and yet constantly puts forward plans to spend, spend, spend. He's gone on about being serious about cuts and yet Labour are making cuts and he's making more promises to invest, mostly in things that don't need extra investment. He's basing his economic on the calculations of a very poor shadow treasurer who takes ball park figures of where he can make savings without looking at the detail of what that means on the ground, the Lib Dems do it too, like getting rid of quangos. The money they claim they can save by getting rid of quangos is mostly the money passed on to PCTs that directly fund the NHS (which is an area Cameron said he wouldn't make cuts) but PCTs are called quangos (mistakenly mostly) simply because they're defined as being independent bodies so that they can be impartial. Its impossible to remove them, Cameron certainly wouldn't and it goes against his funding promises and yet the Tories continually quote the removal of quangos as the source of saving to cut the deficit. Liberal Democrats claim the same (and then in the same documents propose the formation of countless more quangos in the name of accountability and regulation).

Its like 'the quango' is a made up concept that simply eats up money and serves no purpose, which is a load of rubbish. They also employ thousands of people who would then all be jobless in the biggest batch of redundencies ever heard of.

Its nonsense policy that just doesn't stand up and I hope these public debates really show Cameron for what he is behind the spin. Cameron will raise taxes, cut wages of people who truly run the country like nurses, police and teachers and kill off the unions made to prevent him doing so. He'll hand the prisons over to the private sector who get paid for each person they get and keep in prison so drive up prison populations at a huge cost to the public in order to make the most profit.

Theres thousands of individuals who have committed petty crimes being kept in private prisons on waiting lists to fulfill drugs and alcohol rehabilitation and counselling that they could easily undergo outside of prison. It costs £105,000 for each new prison place built and £38,753 a year for each prisoner. Most of the waiting lists are between a year and two years long, longer than nearly all their sentences. If I remember rightly theres roughly 11,000 people waiting for release but still unable to complete the terms of their sentence for these reasons. Thats a huge percentage of the prison population. Think of the cost we can save by changing this system, yet Cameron wants to build MORE prison places at a cost of billions to the taxpayer despite there being thousands of places readily available if we simply made the system more efficient.

The US will be the worlds dominant power well through 2030, 14 trillion dollar economy. And we must remember the European is not a country, it is not 1 military it is many, it is not one economy it is many. Two EU countries can hurt each other economically. I don't thing the EU could ever be called a super power. In fact Europe is declining faster than the US. The EU has no natural population growth, right now it's is only growing due to immigration, and will eventually start shrinking, and around 2050 the US and EU's overall population will be within 10 million of each other.

But the most of us will see the overall decline of the western world, as countries like China and India emerge. China will beat India to is, but it may be 50 years before China can be called a sole superpower.

As far as power and influence, not much will change in the next ten years. The only thing that will happen major in the next 10 years is China will pass up Japan economically.

I didn't actually say anything about European power, I think British interests (and other European nations interests) will lie with the EU rather than the US in future. I agree that it will be other nations that build up great power and influence to fill what void the US will inevitably leave to some extent.

Europe as a continent will become less prominent as you say, so its only natural for individual states within Europe to see the EU as the best means of retaining an influence within the world.
