Foreign Office Press Release28th October 2008Regional Stats and Positions Click to visit the Great Britain and Ireland Region Click to visit the Great Britain and Ireland Forums Regional population: 302 Regional power: Very High The Intram Government: Prime Minister: Bilrow Deputy Prime Minister: Clemantion Home Secretary: James Byrne Foreign Secretary: Fenchurch First Sea Lord: OnderKelkia Culture Secretary: Clemantion World Assembly Delegate: Engul Number of Endorsements: 55 Special Election Update In keeping with the elections act 2005, Prime Minister Bilrow called a general election for the House of Commons for October 24th. These elections saw 13 people running for a seat in the HoC, with many new faces among them. It also saw several old hands running, such as OnderKelkia, Bilrow and Clemantion. This term also sees the retirement of two experienced members of the house. Fenchurch, a former Prime Minister, long term cabinet member and current Foreign Minister has retired stating that she believes it is time for newer members of the region to shine. Engul, another long term cabinet member and current WA delegate has also not stood for reelection stating that RL was getting much busier for him and that he wasn't sure that he had enough time to dedicate to the region. You can read their retirement announcements by clicking the following links: Fenchurch's Retirement Announcement Engul's Retirement Speech The campaign saw all 13 candidates working hard to try and gain the votes of the electorate. Many different policies were discussed and two possible PM candidates made their intentions to run for the top job public. This election also saw no less than three political parties competing for votes. To view the manifesto material for the candidates, click on their names below: Leach Island Dictator Nay Sur Abruzzi The Kingdom of Paquerettes Sir Stanley url=http://z6.invisionfree.com/Great_Britain_Region/index.php?showtopic=11616]Donchatryit[/url] Rugbyprop87 Pope Righteousness III James Byrne OnderKelkia Bilrow Spazzistan Clemantion The polls closed on the 24th of October, with the results being as follows:
This meant that the 11 members of the House of Commons this term are: Pope Righteousness III Sir Stanley Clemantion Rugbyprop87 OnderKelkia James Byrne The Kingdom of Paquerettes Sur Abruzzi Spazzystan Donchatryit Bilrow A further stirr has also been caused by the candidates Nay and Leach Island Dictator, and questions have been raised as to the identity of the two, when Nay posted the manifesto of Leach Island Dictator. A case has been brought to the High Court regarding the matter, as it is illegal in GB&I to run for election as more than one candidate. After the elections were over, the new MPs began the task of selecting the new Prime Minister for the term. OnderKelkia and Clemantion were both seconded, and a further candidate, Donchatryit put his name forward and was also seconded. The three prospective PMs debated for approximately 48 hours before a vote was held. This debate can be found by clicking Here The final ballot can be located Here Clemantion recieved the votes from 6 MPs, while OnderKelkia claimed 3 and Donchatryit 2. This meant that Clemantion received the confidence of a majority of the HoC and will form the next government of the region. As yet he has not been appointed by the King, but it is expected that he will open parliament within the next 5 days. Military Success On the 25th of October, forces from Great Britain and Ireland's Royal Navy succeeded in taking over the region Chicago. The victory is a fantastic achievement for all soldiers involved and for First Sea Lord OnderKelkia, who made the following announcement.
The Royal Navy have since left the region. This has been a production of the Foreign Office of Great Britain and Ireland. |
