I found this on another site and thought it would be a great thing to share. Although I don't agree with everything he says it is good enough to get you started it comes in several parts: Every region needs to recruit new members. There are several different ways to achieve this but for the most part all recruiting practices are the same. Every recruiter needs to experiment to find a method which works for them. This will include recruiting at different times of the day, different days of the week, different letter styles and approaches to new prospective members. Every recruiter will tell you, recruiting is like fishing. Some days you simply won't get a bite no matter how long you are at it while other days you won't be able to stop reeling them in. A technique you used yesterday which seemed to work perfectly won't necessarily work today. So why? To attempt to answer that question I need to tell you about some of the realities of new nations. They are not always new players. They may be invaders creating new nations to invade a certain region. Invasions are a fact of life within NationStates and invaders always create new nations to use. If you see several nations are all going to the same region then it may be the case. They may be new players making several different nations to fill their own region. Sometimes new players get excited when they first find NationStates and create their own region. They then set out to fill their region with their own "puppet" nations that they create to give the illusion that they actually have an active region. If you look at a region such as this, you may notice that no one is actually using their regional message board. That would be because there is no one to actually talk to within that region. They may be joining a friends region or a school region. Nations which are founded and then leave the feeder right away do so because they were created for a reason. It could be that their friend has a region and they head straight there or sometimes school classes create regions for the purpose of examining politics. These are just a few cases in which new nations will not be interested in your letters. Regardless, the name Absolution should stick in their collective memories and sometime in the future they may very well decide to join the region because of a recruitment letter you had sent to them once upon a time. Never set out with the expectation of immediate results. If you live with expectation you may live with disappointment. A more realistic approach is to achieve awareness of the region. To stick the name in their minds so that when they get bored with the region they had initially chosen they will remember a region by the name of....Absolution. You will of course have days when new nations flock to the region in droves but obtaining immediate results is rare and should not be expected remember, nations will most likely see your letter the next time they log in which could be anywhere from an hour to never. The key is that the more nations you reach, the more effective you will be as a recruiter. There is a certain amount of pride that goes into knowing that you have recruited successfully for your region and watching your region grow in size knowing that YOU are the one responsible for it. A good recruiter is considered a junior ambassador in every respect and reputation goes a long way if you choose to run for a governing position one day. Recruiting is a constant duty. The bulk of new nations you recruit will sadly log in once or twice and then never again. They will cease to exist within a month or two. That's why the key to growing a successful region is in the number of nations you reach out to. Undoubtedly, a few new nations you introduce to the region today will be here long after tomorrow and who knows, it may be you one day teaching them the fine art of recruitment.
|

Most guides are just copy/paste... There is no reason to write orignally when recruitment hasn't changed in... how many years now? |
