Information:

Founded in March of 2007, A World Power was once one of the largest regions in Nationstates, and is currently re-building to its former glory! We as a region hold no specific political ideology, but nations organise themselves into Great Houses of likeminded individuals. The leaders of the three largest Houses form a Triumvirate which is responsible for leading the region. We believe in open elections for all citizens of our region and operate a one of the major defender forces in the game, which protects regions across Nationstates from invasion.

Welcome to A World Power!

Our forum acts as the hub of our community, and is where our Government, Citizens Assembly, and Regional Defence Force are coordinated. But it's not all serious business! No one has made requests. I'm feeling like an angry god this week. Remember, make weather requests or get what the magic 8-ball tells me to give you. It told me to convert speed to metric, but not to convert temperatures.

Thursday - Thunder and lightning, and hail the size of Volkswagens! Torrential rains will flood the lowlands. Winds are expected to exceed 50 MPH (80 KPH). High 72, low 55.

Friday - The rains continue. Winds decrease to 20 mph/30 kph. Temperatures drop. Highs in the low 60s, low around 45.

Saturday - Still rain. High 57, low 34. Rain/snow mix likely toward evening as the winds shift to the south.

Sunday - More rain/snow mix, shifting to all snow by early afternoon. Winds 10 mph/ 16 kph. High 43, low 30.

Monday - Snow. Lots of it. Wind same as Sunday. High 34, low 25.

Tuesday - Sunshine! Wear your sunglasses. That reflection from the snow and ice will blind ya. High 30, low 18.

Wednesday - Winds increase. Expect drifting snow and extremely low visibility. High 28, low 16. Wind chill factors may reach well below zero, as gusts of 40 mph (65 kph)

This proposal was just passed by the World Assembly.

The Right to a Fair Trial
A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.

Category: Human Rights
Strength: Strong
Proposed by: South Oceana

Description: Observing that there is currently no guarantee of justice for those accused of criminal acts.

Noting that convictions are often unsafe due to the absence of any legal requirements for a trial under international law

Remarking that miscarriages of justice are common.

Believing that it should be everyone’s right to be protected from malicious and unfair prosecution by law.

Further believing that the more rigorous examination of evidence seen in a fair trial will lead to fewer innocent people being unfairly punished.

Hereby mandates that all WA member nations guarantee a fair trial to anyone facing prosecution in their territory, in accordance with the following requirements:

Article 1 § That the accused be seen as innocent until proven guilty beyond all reasonable doubt, thus placing the onus of proof on the prosecuting authority.

Article 2 § That the defendant be given the right to present his case or to be represented by a person of his choosing.

Article 3 § That the evidence shall be considered by an impartial jury of no less than 5 people and presided over by a judge with knowledge of the laws being applied and the requirements for a trial.

Article 4 § That all persons shall have the right to remain silent when questioned, and exercising this right shall not be used as evidence against them in court.

Article 5 § That information and testimony may not be extracted under duress or using any form of physical or psychological torture.

Article 6 § That the defendant shall have the right to question any witness who provides evidence.

Article 7 § That the defendant be entitled to appeal against both the sentence and verdict that has been passed.

Article 8 § That any punitive sentence passed by a court be proportional to the crime committed.

Article 9 § That the proceedings of the trial conclude within a reasonable time period.

Votes Against: 4,477

The Rogue Nation of Peackeepers of legos
"Lego my ego"

Category: Inoffensive Centrist Democracy
Civil Rights:
Below Average Economy:
Good Political Freedoms:
Average
Location: 00000 A World Power Regional Influence: Minnow

The Rogue Nation of Peackeepers of legos is a very large, environmentally stunning nation, notable for its punitive income tax rates. Its compassionate, hard-working population of 191 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Law & Order, and Healthcare. The average income tax rate is 55%. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Information Technology.

The alarmingly racist TV show 'Bigtopians Say the Darndest Things' is a hit, meat-eating is frowned upon, the fedora is a protected species, and corporations donate huge sums of money to favored politicians. Crime is well under control, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Peackeepers of legos's national animal is the fedora, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the ego.

Peackeepers of legos is ranked 106th in the region and 36,750th in the world for Most Politically Free Nations.

-Never lie to mom-

Brian invited his mother over for dinner. During the course of the meal,
Brian's mother couldn't help but keep noticing how beautiful Brian's
roommate, Stephanie, was. Brian's Mom had long been suspicious of a
relationship between Brian and Stephanie, and this had only made her
more curious. Over the course of the evening, while watching the two
react, she started to wonder if there was more between Brian and
Stephanie than met the eye. Reading his mom's thoughts, Brian
volunteered, "I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you
Stephanie and I are just roommates."

About a week later, Stephanie came to Brian saying, "Ever since your
mother came to dinner, I've been unable to find the beautiful silver
gravy ladle. You don't suppose she took it, do you?" Brian said, "Well,
I doubt it, but I'll send her an e-mail just to be sure."So he sat down and wrote:

Dear Mom:
I'm not saying that you "did" take the gravy ladle from the house, I'm
not saying that you "did not" take the gravy ladle. But the fact remains
that one has been missing ever since you were here for dinner.

Love, Brian

Several days later, Brian received an email back from his mother that
read:

Dear Son:

I'm not saying that you "do" sleep with Stephanie, I'm not saying that
you "do not" sleep with Stephanie. But the fact remains that if
Stephanie is sleeping in her own bed, she would have found the gravy
ladle by now.

Love, Mom

Just a reminder - If you have special weather requests or anything else to tell us on the Inquirer staff, post in the "Letters to the Editor" thread here.
"Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything — you can't conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him." ~ Robert A. Heinlein
