Information:

Founded in March of 2007, A World Power was once one of the largest regions in Nationstates, and is currently re-building to its former glory! We as a region hold no specific political ideology, but nations organise themselves into Great Houses of likeminded individuals. The leaders of the three largest Houses form a Triumvirate which is responsible for leading the region. We believe in open elections for all citizens of our region and operate a one of the major defender forces in the game, which protects regions across Nationstates from invasion.

Welcome to A World Power!

Our forum acts as the hub of our community, and is where our Government, Citizens Assembly, and Regional Defence Force are coordinated. But it's not all serious business! The legendary Rucket Park is full of polls, spam games and nonsense chat, our Role Playing Pavilion is the place for all your roleplaying needs, and the A World Power Center is where we get to know each other.

Foreign Office Press Release for 18 February 2008

'Change' Hits Great Britain and Ireland

Following the general election which sent 10 Members of Parliament into the 17th House of Commons in the history of Great Britain and Ireland, the region has been marked by a strong desire for a change in direction. Following up on the philosophical and political differences which marked the previous term, the new era began with the selection of Sir Dingle Foot as Prime Minister of Great Britain and Ireland on a reformist platform. The new government of Great Britain and Ireland is as follows:

Prime Minister:Sir Dingle Foot
Deputy Prime Minister: Donchatryit
Home Secretary: Flake
Foreign Secretary: Klopstock
First Sea Lord: Fenchurch
Minister of Community: Kingdom of Paquerettes

Coupled with the new reformist government in the region, an enormous reorganization and re-naming task has been undertaken on the forum which has significantly altered the physical appearance and characteristics of the region's off-site community. The announcements section has been archived in the hope of reviving less trafficked parts of the forum, and subforums for general discussion, role play, and non-regional discussion have been renamed The Coffee House, The Globe, and The Rose and Crown respectfully. Come take a look! GB&I's forums can be found at: this address

In addition, a re-examination of the region's constitution has been launched with the support of a significant proportion of citizens, MPs, Lords and residents (and has been met with the opposition of a significant proportion of the region as well!). Legislation has recently passed parliament which has re-enforced the independence of the judiciary by abolishing executive appointment of judges, and a bill has passed the House of Commons giving that chamber a greater ability to override the House of Lords - an item which was voted down unanimously by the upper chamber. A compromise proposal is in the works. Other legislation regarding the steps to declaring war and the process for ending hostilities have also been brought for consideration, after a snag leftover from the previous government found the region at war with two dead, insignificant regions which few people had even heard of before. With a major effort at further reform in the works under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Minister's office, the 17th parliament of Great Britain and Ireland promises to be an active and potentially monumental one.

In other regional business, a newly reinforced and enthused team of recruiters has led to a growth spurt in regional population from the 150 mark to a current 183 nations, with further new proposals and innovative ideas in the advanced planning stages. An unusually active Home Office under the leadership of Flake has been cited all around for progress on this front, and citizenship applications continue to be processed with speed and detailed examination. Likewise the Admiralty under the first 'First Sea Lady' Fenchurch has seen a healthy rise in naval recruitment. Exercises and war games, including a role play like re-enactment of the First World War, have been announced and are currently getting under way, as the Royal Navy begins to grapple with its new role in the post-imperialist age. The Ministry of Community is currently sponsoring (and effectively administering) the ninth version of The People's Awards, where citizens of the region vote for their preferred choices in such categories as 'Favourite Member', 'Most Dignified Member' and 'GB&Ier you would least like to operate on you'. Voting ends on 20 February, and the results are to be announced soon after.

With increased activity and a desire for widespread change sweeping across the region, the present marks an exciting and enlivening time to visit Great Britain and Ireland! Stay tuned for further updates on the life and times in GB&I, and don't forget to visit us at http://www.gbi-region.co.uk.
