The new forum users dictionary This guide is created to help give new forum users what some things mean on forums, as we have made our own little language! <3 - heart STFU - Shut the f*** up. This is the way you will hear many people tell somebody to be quiet. STHU - shut the hell up. This is a less harsh way of telling somebody to be quiet when you are angry or do not have much time on your hands. w00t - woo hoo! 1337 - Leet. This is a type of typing that uses other characters than those consisting of the alphabet. the 1337 alphabet - A= /-\ B= |3 C= < D= <| OR |) OR |> E= 3 F= |= G= 9 H= |-| I= | J= ? This rules. this suxxors - this sucks. this rox my sox! - this is amazing! It's quite interesting. n00b, newb, newbie, nuby, nooby, n00by, nubie, noobie - a new forum user, or somebody who does not have much experience in something. YIM - Yahoo instant messenger service. MSN - Microsoft messenger service. AIM - america onlice instant messenger service. ATTN: attention:. ASCII - ASCII refers to ASCII art; which is just a different media outlet for art. You will hear this being used most with art. It does have another meaning; it is a coding language. Most of the time is will be refered to as ASCII art. GFX - graphics. moderator - a person who overlooks a forums well being. Imagine it like this: in school the moderator would be the teacher. People also call the moderator "mod" for short. Global Moderator - The person who looks over the forum like a hybrid between an administrator and a moderator. The global moderator is also known as the G.mod, s.mod, super moderator, global, and high moderator. Imagine it like this: in school the janitors would be the global moderator. (nothing else to compare at school. Sorry Globals!) administrator - the person who takes care of the entire forum. Imagine it like this: In school, your principal would be the administrator. People also call the administrator the "admin" for short. member - a person who completely joins a forum. validating - a person who joined, but still have to go through a process to become a member. This does not happen in all cases. banned - A person who had done something that went against forum rules nd now they are not allowed back into the forum. There are 3 different types of banning: username, IP address, and email ban. hacks, mods - a hack is something that you place in your forum to add an effect to your forum. a mod is short for "modification". It is the same thing as a hack. Please do not get moderator and modifications short forms mixed up! They are both mod, so be sure that what you think others are talking about is what they are REALLY talking about. posted - when a member responds to; or comments on something. guest - a person who is just viewing the forum without joining it. Sometimes this guest could be a member who has not signed in yet. signing in - this is where a person who has already joined, accesses thier account to gain access to the full benefits of the forum. |
