I have made this F.A.Q.S. so that all of the members/users that have never heard of ASCII—and there have been many—can do something different. It is also a way that will make it easier on me. By having you read this, I hope that you (the user/member) won’t make ten million topics for the same question. Hope this answers your questions! Some rules: to view most rules click ToS up top. other rules implyed will now be: we have a zero tolerance for swearing. so even if you misspell something purposely to avoid censoring, I will warn you. so please do NOT swear. What is ASCII? ASCII is a form of art. It isn’t like graphics, where you have to have good programs to make it, but where all you need to make the best ASCIIs are in notepad. Notepad is free on every computer(well, PC’s anyways). How do you correctly spell ASCII? You spell it as in A S C [eye, eye], not A S C [one, one]. How do you pronounce ASCII? Ask-ee, at least, that is how I say it! ![]() Where should I start/make ASCIIs? The best place to start/make ASCII is in notepad. Some people find that using the reply box area of your signature is better, but if you are just starting out, I suggest using notepad. Why do ASCII? Now, that is a difficult question to answer. I find that there is no right or wrong answer to this. I make ASCII because before I started to learn graphics, I didn’t have any other way to make pictures. Others make it because they find it fun, and it is their pastime. Still others make ASCII because they always like a good challenge. I am having trouble with my ASCII, who should I tell? The best place to ask for help is in the Help forum. You will get most of your answers there. How do I fade? if you go here it should help you out. If you just want to have your ASCII, and don’t feel like doing it yourself, then just go to the Fade Request forum. Remember, you have to have your ASCII rated 7/10 or higher by staff for it to be faded. You also have to have at LEAST 25+ posts to request. When I copy and paste my ASCII from notepad, it looks weird! Why is this? The most common problem people have is this. Firstly, you have to have the font tags: lucida console at the very front of your ASCII, and at the very end of it. Other times this happens is because it is WAYYYYY to wide and so the forum automatically wraps it so it won’t strech the page for half a mile. What do I use to make ASCII? Primarily, you should start off in notepad, and if you feel that is too hard, then do it in the signature reply box. What is “fade”? Fade is where the ASCII slowly changes into a different color. So if at one end, it starts off as blue, then at the other end, oh lets say it ends at green. That is a fade. How old are you Deat!!??!! Well that seems a bit off topic from the FAQ’s I’m making so I’ll answer that another time….. Wow, you guys make GREAT ASCIIs! I know anybody would love to hear that…. Wow! You guys suck at this! Here, this is how you do it….. Even though we always love to see that members are getting better at it, we do NOT take kindly to people who put other’s ASCII down. If I see you putting down another member’s ASCII, I will verbally warn you first, then I will really warn you if I see it again. The only time that I won’t warn is if the creator puts it down as well. How do I become a moderator? You can become one by giving me a peppermint with the words….. wait, no. You can become a mod by helping out other members and showing maturity and that you can handle a mod spot. If you EVER ask for a mod spot, this will positively secure the fact that you WON’T get it. Be patient and you have a better chance then begging for it. What is this “all your base” thing? To sum it up, all your base is just a very poorly translated video game script. The company that translated it got bankrupt….. I wonder why. ![]() What’s with the beginner, intermediate, ETC. thing? It is just the ranking system I have. The higher rank you are, the more “abilities” you have. One of which is being able to store more PM’s in your inbox and outbox. Why don’t you have any music playing? I don’t have any music playing because that could possibly be the most off-topic thing to have on this forum for ASCII. It would be like putting pink ribbons on a motorcycle owned by the “Death’s angels”. Why don’t you have a homepage yet? I don’t have one because I still have yet to find a good FREE host/ site builder out there. If anybody has links to good ones, then PLEASE send me the link. How did you think to make an ASCII forum? It all started at another gaming forum I was joined with. They are probably the best of the best. I mean this. They make me look like a beginner. They can fade, make wicked looking ASCII, and above all, can do some cool tricks with it. How did you get this forum to be so popular? All I did was send the link around to different forums, and put it in my signature, then BAM! I started to become popular. I chose something that nobody else had done before, and worked with it until it came out as you see it now. If I see somebody stealing somebody else’s ASCII, what should I do? If you ever see this then please contact me through Email, or PM. Never make a topic about it because then they will just remove the stolen ASCII and say they never stole anything. How come there is no character limit for my signature? There is no limit because the best ASCIIs and also any of them that are faded have well over 10000 characters in them. I found it to just be easier to just take away any limit. Is it ok to put tons of ASCII and graphics in my sig? No it is NOT. You are allowed to have tons in your sig, but you are limited to one or two ASCIIs depending on the size of them, and one graphic. If you have two ASCIIs then you can have no graphics. If you have one ASCII, then you can have one graphic. |
