Hey guys it's Royale here again bringing you a review as I promised, todays review is going to be for one of my favorite Indie game and one of my favorites of all time

Posted Image

Developers: Team Meat
Genre: Platformer
Platforms: Xbox 360, PC, Linux, OS X
Release Date: October 20 2010

The Plot Super Meat Boy is set in a rather peculiar universe that seems to be inhabited by Squirrels, Meat, Fetuses and Indie Game characters, you will play the role of Meat Boy, a Cubed hunk of meat who is in love with Bandage Girl who is yes, a big cube of bandages, however the evil Doctor Fetus who hates everyone (And Everyone Hates Him) decides to take Bandage Girl, it is up to you, Meat Boy, to save Bandage Girl and stop Dr. Fetus.

Graphics Meat Boys Visuals while being 2 Dimensional are terrific, the 8-16 bit characters have more personality in them than most characters in modern gaming, everything is colorful and good to look at, however there are places where the visuals take a turn, for better for worse, one example are the Warp Zones, these take you into 8-Bit dimensions designed to look like games for the GameBoy and GameBoy Colour, while it can be a real killer to the eyes, it was a nice reference and I respect Team Meat for adding these levels in

There are also levels known as Dark Worlds, ones that take the original level and amp the difficulty up in some cases tenfold, most of these have a simple 1 colour look to them, I'll go into this stuff a little more in the Gameplay section, but these ones can either be bad or good, depending on what color scheme they want to go with

There are also character warp zones, which take the art style from their own game and change it a little to go with the graphic style of Meat Boy, whatever way you put it, Meat Boy's visuals are more than anyone could ask for, and don't you dare ask for a 3D Meat Boy.

Graphics = 10/10

Gameplay If I wanted to state the way the game plays, it's like Mario on some strong steroids, levels are fast paced and you will need some brilliant reflexes to guide your little Meat Boy to the end to Bandage Girl, of course, most players don't have those reflexes at first, which will result in monotonous death to the point of rage, some levels can have you dying over a hundred times before you can get to the end, the really satisfying thing is you will be given a replay of your runthrough, which also shows the timely deaths of all those unlucky Meat Boys along with the successful one, it's really something to watch, the game is really fluid too, speed and jump arcs are not entirely affected by gravity as you can determine your landing area, but that doesn't mean you're not gonna fall to your death, the game has a good variety in its levels, some require precise timing while some are frantic and require speed, along with this are enemies like Turrets, Blobs and Demon things that separate upon collision, the game also has bosses, one for every area, some range from actual battles in which you will need to use the environment to kill your opponent to simply escaping a certain place, each of the 300+ levels are unique in their own way, you will definitely find some favorites, no matter what kind of player you are.

Gameplay= 9.5/10

Sound This games sound selection is perfect, all the sounds are fitting and the music goes with the gameplay so well, even the main Narrator sounds great and will have many memorable sayings including my favorite

The soundtrack also has something for everyones tastes, it has some rock, along with some more modern music, either way the music will cater to most people

Sound= 9/10

Controls
Super Meat Boys are terrific, they're fitting and easy to use, everything is memorable and you won't be pressing things that are far apart, even on a keyboard, the only commands you have is Run, Sprint, Jump Walljump, Slide and move through the air, the game did really well at simplifying the controls, it really does help the fast pace of the game, however, the game is better played with a Controller.

Controls= 8/10

Lasting Appeal Okay, I've said this before, but this game has 300+ levels, that alone is enough to give you a game, but they take it and put it into overdrive, Collectibles and Unlockable characters and stages are the main rewards, but each character is unique, here's a list of all the characters

Spelunky, Tim (Braid), Flywrench, Ogmo, Jill, Alien Hominid, Meat Boy, Bandage Girl, Dr Fetus, Commander Video, Gish, Jill, Steve (Minecraft) Tofu Boy, The Kid, Virdian, Brownie, Naija, N, RunMan and a Headcrab, I belive there are more but that's all I know as of now, they also added in a level editor and a place for people to not only upload their own levels, but their own entire worlds, they can be made up of around 20 levels each, you will not find yourself with nothing to do in Super Meat Boy

Lasting Appeal= 10/10

THE VERDICT

Super Meat Boy is a tremendous game that everyone should play, it's got heaps to do, it's funny as hell, and it will keep you playing no matter how many times you die, that's quite a bunch for 15 dollars.

+ Lots To Do
+ Laugh Filled Storyline
+ Awesome Boss Battles
+ Fast Paced Levels
+ Level Editor
+ YOU CAN PLAY AS A HEADCRAB
! NEED I SAY MORE

10/10!!!!

Sorry for that fanboyism back there, but yes this game is indeed brilliant

Please tune in next time for my next review on: Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Clocked this game once, never playing it again haha. But I love it. Just the type of game that I always enjoy, very difficult and frustrating and lasts! Great review.

I hope so. It also might be coming out on iOS soon, but apparently only if the controls can end up alright.

I belive it is, but it wouldn't be out for another year or two, the creators only released another game called The Binding of Isaac a few months ago

I wish Nintendo would stop being so stubborn and just support this game coming to one of their systems. I played it on PC but playing it on the 3DS on the go would be a dream. Nintendo however did reject the Binding of Isaac when they tried getting it on the eshop.

I also hear that one is being made for iOS, but that the controls will actually be good. Will be interesting to see what they come up with.
