Sony will reportedly be laying off 10,000 members of its global business.

The company is said to be planing a 6 percent cut in its workforce worldwide over the next year, according to Japanese reports today (via AP), although its unclear if the cuts will affect the PlayStation business.
This would come as the latest in Sony's efforts to return the company to profit after dwindling TV sales contribute to increasing losses.

The reports remain unconfirmed, but will hopefully be addressed by the firm's new CEO (and former PlayStation boss) Kazuo Hirai at a press conference this Thursday.

While job cuts are always sad for the employees involved, it's important that Sony stems it's huge losses. While the Playstation division is making a profit currently, there still may be a few job losses but don't expect to notice much difference in game output or quality.

Let's just hope Sony can start making money again because it's a fantastic company with a great history!

I'm sure Sony will do whatever they can to keep making profit and firing some staff will not make any difference to the quality of games or consoles.

I think I remember reading that Sony made huge losses, though I think thats generally across the board.

I think that even Nintendo had a loss this year, for the first time ever.
