With their finals hopes relinquished after their previous two losses, Melbourne Victory have beaten the odds and won there second game since Jim Magilton was appointed as a replacement for Mehmet Durakovic against a very strong Wellington Phoenix who now have a very slim chance of earning themselves and their fans a home final.

It only took the Victory 11 minutes to score, when Fabio gave the ball to Thompson, who in turn gave it to Hernandez, who saw he had some space and scored a spectacular goal from outside the box, leaving Paston absolutely no chance to save it.

Thompson was very unlucky not to score straight after when a free kick from Hernandez connected with his head, but Paston was their to save it. In the 31st minute Thompson once again was unlucky, taking on two Phoenix defenders and hitting the inside of the upright and the ball bounced out. He then missed another shot in the dying minutes of the game, with a defender at his side he tried to take a left footed sht but hit it wide.

Tando Velaphi, the Victory's reserve goalkeeper was having an amazing game, and made a brilliant save in the 37th minute when a sliding clearence in the box by the Victory only made it as far as Tim Brown, who took his chances fro outside the box but could not get past Velaphi.

After Thompson's shot was saved by Phoenix Keeper Mark Paston a minute before, he made a great run on the right and he put a brilliant ball into the box, and Isaka Cernak who had come on to replace Rojas in the 19th Minute after he suffered an apparent broken jaw, slid in, in front of the defender and hit the back of the net, making it 2-0 at 57 minutes.

With only around a minute to go of normal time, James Jeggo scored an an amazing goal, shooting from quite far out and hitting the top left corner of the upright, and leaving Paston stunned as to why he couldn't save it.

The 3-0 win at AAMI Park was a brilliant ending to a horrible season for 8th place Victory, who in 26 matches have won only 6 games, 3 of them against the Wellington Phoenix, drawn a whopping 11 times and lost 9 times. The Phoenix, who now drop to 4th behind Perth after the loss will now hope that Gold Coast and the Victory can beat the Glory and the Phoenix win their next game to ensure they book a home final.

The win also gives the players something to cheer about, especially Carlos Hernandez whose contract ends at the end of this season and has reportedly made plans to head back to Costa Rica with fellow Victory player Jean Carlos Solarzano.

Well it's good to see us get a win to end the season! I really hope Victory will do better next year though!

@Scope - Is Magilton staying on?

Well I certainly hope not but nothing has been decided yet ;( They are set to announce it at the conclusion of the 2011-2012 A-League season.

I can tell you that the Victory did sign former Gold Coast Defender Adama Traore who is apparently going to be replacing Fabio at Left Back ;)
