My fears are becoming more real than ever as rumours are that the PS4 will probably not be backwards compatible!![]() 4logpc shares my sentiments in the reasonings below:
![]() The Cell Processor It makes sense also that with the recent discussion of abandoning the Cell Processor will lead to this. And experience and history shows that Sony is not afraid of a total shift in development; the Vita is a recent example of this, abandoning the UMD discs for memory chips, making all the previous games on the PSP unable to be played on the Vita, unless it is through buying it AGAIN digitally. |

Hmm I never thought about backwards compatibility when I was praising Sony's decision to possibly ditch the Cell Processor. While it could be possible, the chances do become slim if they change from Cell to a traditional multi core CPU. |

I personally dont like this. I was kind of hoping to not have to buy my fave games from this generation again to play on a future console so soon (maybe in 2 gens time it would be appropriate) but I think i am more heavily invested in the games I buy now than i was from PS2 to PS3. I whinge about things but still buy them anyway... i am so weak

This is why I hated my PS3. I have about 70 PS2 and PS1 games in my wardrobe, and I was gutted when I found out I couldn't play them. I got a Playstation 3 when it first came out, all those years ago, and it couldn't play any of them. Then, I got a new one at the start of 2010, and it can only play PS1 games, not PS2. Personally, this annoys me. With the Xbox 360, you can still play original Xbox games, the ones that have become classics. It saddens me to think that some of Playstation's best games won't be available on the PS4... |

This is something that I was dreading. I have a lot of PS3 games that I want to keep playing without having to plug out my PS4 and plug in my old PS3 from under my bed. |

If this does become the case, I will be rather annoyed. I love the few games I have, and I think I will probably continue playing them when the PS4 comes out until the games successors arrive and having to re-setup the PS3 to play them will be irritating. |

Well it is not confirmed yet, but it just seems very likely if they do dump Cell processors for now.. |

I don't see what's so bad about having a playback and normal version? Sure it would cost more but I'm sure it would increase sales if they weren't going to let the PS4 play PS3 games. |

This was my only problem with the PS3. It's not confirmed but I don't think the PS4 be playing PS3 games. |

Well the Xbox 360 had completely different hardware to the the original Xbox , but Microsoft spend some good money making sure many classics are backward compatible via emulation! Theoretically Sony could do the same thing or could possibly use the current PS3 Cell processor for something else on the PS4 and have it kick in when you need to play PS3 games. However a lot of this will come down to money and I'm not sure if Sony will be willing to spend it! |
