![]() ![]() The winner of the best coaching face goes to? The two newest coaches in the Hyundai A-League, Melbourne Victory's Jim Magilton and Adelaide United faced off last night at AAMI Park in Melbourne. Going into the match, Adelaide United had not lost a game under veteran A-League coach John Kosmina since he took on the job after the sacking of Rini Coolen, while this was Northern Irishman's Jim Magilton's first match as coach in the A-League after previous stints coaching in the English Premier League. So what was the end result of their coming together? The game was a 1-1 draw but both sides could take positives from the game. Adelaide United are in great form and are looking like a totally different side under Kosmina while Melbourne look like a rejuvenated side under Magilton. As of the time I write this Victory are sitting 5th on the ladder while United are in 7th! However they are only separated by goal difference with both teams sitting on 19 points! |

It is definitely great to see a change in coaches for both teams! They have both struggled during the start of the season, but now it seems both coaches could help them reach the finals! Being at the game, I was amazed at the sudden change in play style, from the commitment to the ball to the overall pace of the game, And I must admit I was thoroughly impressed which rarely happens when I go to A-League matches (I haven't been impressed by an A-League game since the 6-0 thrashing of Adelaide in the Grand Final lol)! Jim Magilton has somehow brought out something amazing in the Melbourne Victory team! Although a lapse has cost them a goal like usual, the Victory seemed to attack more than usual, but were able to defend regardless of if they lost possession, and for the most part they defended very well! He also seems to have brought out the best in Harry Kewell, who I think had a Man-of-the-Match performance for the first time this season! I will definitely be keeping a close eye on these two coaches

Well I hope the Victory make the finals under Magilton. The intensity had picked up for sure and Kewell is really playing well nowadays! |
