Melbourne Victory back on the winning list!

After a very disappointing 2011/2012 season that is currently in progress, Melbourne Victory are finally back on the winnning list after a very impressive 3-1 win against Wellington Pheonix, who have now dropped below Melbourne Victory who are in 6th after the win.

The game was dominated by the Victory for the whole first half, and most of the second. After five minutes, a great cross from Billy Celeski was met by Archie Thompson, who hit the inside of the left post and into the back of the net.

At 22 minutes, the Victory scored again after the ball went into the box to the feet of Carlos Hernandez, who attempted to cross the ball, but it was deflected off of Wellington's midfielder Vince Lia and straight into the top left corner.

After only 25 minutes the Victory had made it 3-0 and had sealed the game. Wellington were defending desperately, and when the ball reached Diogo Ferreira on the bounce, who volleyed it and scored one of the best goals of the season!

The Victory held on for the rest of the first half, and during the second were lucky not to score countless times, including an amazing chance for struggling Harry Kewell, who was able to take on three defenders, and right in front of goal put the ball straight over the post.

The Victory was dealt a major blow, when Billy Celeski swung his arm at Vince Lia, and was awarded his second yellow card of the match. The Phoenix were able to get one goal back, after some shoddy defending by the Victory allowed Alex Smith on goal, who scored a great goal from outside the box, but it wasn't enough as the Victory held on to win 3-1.

The Victory's win was partially spoiled by another ankle injury by club legend Archie Thompson, who was replaced late on in the match after a very reckless challenge left him in pain on the ground for quite a while as the referee refused to blow his whistle and allow the medics to go and help him. He may not be expected to play in the Melbourne Derby next week, and could even miss the rest of the season.

I must admit, the Victory played one of their best games of the season, and truly showed just how good they really are as a team. With this win, it gives Durakovic another well deserved chance, and puts the Victory as a major contender to reach the finals in 2012.

I watched the first half and it was a cracker. However the 2nd half I had to record and Wellington were probably the more attacking side in the last 45 minutes. Both teams missed many opportunities though, especially the Victory who could have possibly scored 6-8 goals in this game.

Great to see the Victory back winning but it would have been great to see Kewell score one too!

Yeah the one player that I am still wanting to score a proper goal (the penalty doesn't count even though it as a great penalty) is Harry Kewell haha.

If he plays like he did against Adelaide for the Derby, I am 100% sure he will score a couple of goals!

I recorded the game then fast forwarded to the goals. Games like these just show you that many teams have much more potential and ability than they sometimes show or seem. Players need to keep that eye of the tiger ;)

The third goal was amazing. I can't get enough of seeing goals like that.

Wow so Benny goes to Victory games. I really want to go but would love to go with someone. None of my mates have any interest in the A-League or soccer for that matter.

You want to hear something from funny? Last year my brother got me a Victory jersey for my b'day and this year he got me a Heart one! I don't really watch the A-League either.

Haha! Something like that would never happen at my house. It's choose a team and stick with them. We are all Celtic and Liverpool supporters here apart from one of us who supports Manchester United. He isn't welcome in our home anymore. ;)

I really want to go to a game at AAMI Park. For you non Victorians this is Melbourne's first purpose built stadium for Soccer and Rugby!
