![]() PS3 Version Reviewed Young Men of ANWA, keen on the adventure of a life time, consider yourself to be of dragonblood decent? Want to immerse yourself in a world like none other. Want to be remembered in the pages of history a the hero who saved all of Skyrim from the brink of destruction. Welcome to the world of Skyrim my dear friends.... The much anticipated installment of the Elder Scrolls series, Numero Five: Skyrim. This game perhaps is one the games that will take out the game of the year because it simply has that potential. The game itself brings more to the table then stunning visuals. Personally i didn't like Oblivion or the Elder Scrolls IV, it was just so bleak and bland. Many of my friends felt the same and in turn did not play this. As I watched videos and read up on Skyrim however. My mind would begin the change, hearing at how changing and plane amazing it was going to be encouraged myself to pick up a copy a week after release. Now for a game i previously would have ignored to get me to buy it is doing something. Then you dive into the world of Skyrim. You start off as a prisoner, which to people who have played Oblivion would know that being a prisoner is a rage encouraging part of the game. Then you get to run away from your first dragon encounter and escape being a criminal. In the middle part of that you get to choose your race, gender, looks and all. This point forward you get to choose how you progress through the game. Believe me this is a daunting experience. You literally have the whole world to explore or choose to go along with the story line which you can do in around 15 hours, if you so choose to play just the main story. If you do plan to try 100% Skyrim, simply you cannot. Infinite quests prove to be your arch nemesis. Your character is what you make it. The game does not help you choose what you will be. You essentially have to figure out what you want to "specialize" in, i went with an Orc who focused on being a tank so to speak, in your face sword and shield action. Then you have all the professions that you can choose from which i focused on black smithing. There is simply just so many things you can choose, you tailor your character to how you want to play. Sounds simple?? Wait till you play Gameplay: Having no prior knowledge of how a Elder Scrolls game plays on a play station, this was a challenge to learn. The controls play bloody well and are responsive. They really help you get into the game and feel apart of it. The game starts you off on the above normal difficulty, this was a shock to me not really knowing how to play so i would suggest if you were in the same boat as me to turn it down unless you want to hate the game. Its hard to fault the flawless controls but i will say the sensitivity just feels really random, it decides that it wants to turn either too fast or too slow depending on what it feels like. When it does do the right thing sure it feels good. Still the controls do feel a bit cruddy still, navigating the menu can get a touch "annoying". So to give it a 8/10 for this area is fair. Its not perfect but close Visuals: You would assume, fallout looked bad, Oblivion not much better. Skyrim sort of comes from no where and shows us what Bethesda can do. Mind you this is only on PS3 so the PC version, just makes me feel warm and fuzzy to think about it. When you enter skyrim you wont feel warm and fuzzy as you look around the amazing Snowy tundra. You may think that is the only texture you will see. You will go from Blizzards to deserts to forests and certain towns will be different again. They could have gotten away with the one type of architecture and one type of terrain but no, they offer so much diversity it would be hard to explain it all in one review. The game really is stunning. Once you get over the initial standing around just looking at everything you get to see and appreciate that everything they have done has a great amount of effort to make it look as good as it can. Such a big game to have all this. 9/10 Sound: The game doesn't stop giving here, the sounds are great, the accents and variety in how most town peoples are all different. All the races again have variation in how they speak as well. Which means they had a lot of voice actors to make this happen. The music in this game really puts emphasis on the mood of the fight or just walking around minding your own business. The game fight sounds and all again no problems with them, everything matches and sounds authentic that it should if you were having a sword fight in real life. But they did not have enough lines for all these actors, it gets repeated quite a lot. I have pretty much remembered all the lines from certain vendors because they simply do not change what they say. 8/10 This game bring a lot to the table in terms of design and gameplay. The story is again something other game wont match. Fallout was good, Oblivion was pretty good, Skyrim just bent its older predecessors over its knee and slapped them silly. This game is genre changing, it shows that we should expect a lot from all new games to come the 2011 GOTY contender and perhaps just one of the best games of the year gets a very solid and well deserved 8/10 (please note for all PS3 players- This game has the issue that when the save game gets really big, it will cause the game to lag. It should be patched but be careful and be knowledgeable of this issue. This isn't horrible but don't forget about it) As always Green out Edited by ANWA*Luminal, Nov 20 2011, 09:21 PM.

Its not just me, When the save file reaches big levels (scientific term there) The frame rate and overall performance literally shit its pants. It becomes unplayable in certain areas. This happened in Fallout games before it and by now we should all expect it to be fixed. If it didn't have this issue on PS3 it would be a 9 perhaps 9.5 So the PC version which doesnt have this issue and 360 version. I would assume the reviewer would give it 9-9.5 easy. Like it literally stops people from playing it due to the horrible performance |

Well a new patch is coming late November but it's not certain if that will be addressed then. You may need to wait for a further patch! |

The game sounds good, I wasn't sure about it but many people seem to like it. I'll pick it up after christmas if the save data issue is adressed which I'm sure it will, Good review green. |

Little update on the PS3 problem It is going to be patched out of the game. So i might have to change the review once the patch hits. Most of the fun glitches as Bethesda put it, will be kept in the game as they make it fun and let us know it is still a Bethesda game

Yeah I forgot to update you guys, but Bethesda have said the patch will fix all the PS3 issues as well as the texture problems on the Xbox 360 version. Should be any day now I'd imagine. |

Fallout DID have bad graphics on the PS3. Did not notice so much at the start but once you get outside it was a bit..unrefined? Anyway, cool review, but is there an actual story/plot to follow? Like a main one? |
