OKAY I'M GONNA POST MY POST HERE CAUSE ENGLISH IS MY WEAK SUBJECT AND IF I GET SOME GOOD HELP I'LL HAND OUT $1,500 ANWA CASH AND SPLIT IT BETWEEN THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE, NOW I'M NOT ASKING ANYONE TO DO IT I'M JUST ASKING FOR RECOMMENDATIONS ON WHAT TO DO AND CRAP LIKE THAT, NOW THIS IS A ENGLISH SAC SO I HAVE TO ACTULLY DO IT!

my task is to prepare an oral presentation relating to the topic of "crime and punishment in australia". you will need to determine the specific issue you will be focusing on, along with a contention of your own, Your presentation should be supported by evidence found within the australian media - the more recent, the better (this includes print media - newspapers, magazines etc. and the electronic media - television news, talkback radio etc.)

As well as providing backround on the development of the issue, your key focus should be on presenting your reasoned point of view.

Your talk will be presented to your english class during the week beginning monday october 10, 2011

you will need to speak and lead discussion for a minimum of 3mins. you can use aids/props to surrport your talk and may develop a poster handout, presentation, show a clip from tv etc

This seems like an interesting topic. You might go controverisal and talk about the immigration laws, and how you questions if there is punishment to the refugees when they committed no crime? Or is there a crime? Etc. But that will be a tough one.

Even crime and punishment in cyber bullying like on Facebook can be used.

Maybe this will frustrate you, but -

"you will need to determine the specific issue you will be focusing on, along with a contention of your own, Your presentation should be supported by evidence found within the australian media - the more recent, the better (this includes print media - newspapers, magazines etc. and the electronic media - television news, talkback radio etc.)"

You kind of just answered your own question!

I guess that all I can say is remember to give a bit of an introduction, some main points and facts then give your opinion on the topic and a conclusion.

Make sure you touch on the sentencing review being done in Victoria. This is a body set up to look at sentencing by judges and if it's in line with public expectations. It's a very controversial topic and definitely something that has been going on recently and very relevant to the subject matter of your assignment.

My tip doesn't help with the topic, and I don't know what kind of writer you are, so this may be irrelevant, but do not forget full stops and go on a rant XD. Also, I woud be fairly forceful about what you are saying and don't be like "It's kinda this, but some people disagree", be more like "This is what is happening, and many people strongly disagree for thee reasons". I guess I am saying do not be noncommittal.

Some ideas......brainstorming

-Community reaction to crime
-Fighting crime
-Industries/jobs that thrive off crime (Lawyers, solicitors, etc).
-How crime affects us in the community
-Socio-economic factors in relation to crime rates
-Laws in the different states
-Why do people commit crime?
-The social/economic situation and its relation to crime (statistics, etc)
-The social/economic cost of crime
-Most common crimes commited today
-How crime effects the economy
-The court system
-The process of law through the courts
-Tools of punishment
-Societies expectations
-Socially acceptable?
-Compare Australia a different country with a different system of punishment
-Democratic system punishment vs capitalist system punishment

Media (use primarily to back up your argument/or revolve the argument around one main piece with supporting pieces included).

-Maybe feature stories on Today Tonight, A Current Affair, etc.
-Snippets of court hearings (There's a show that does this.....Don't go for Judge Judy!)
-Newspaper clippings for crimes that have been recently committed (agian feature or supporting piece,
*You can make points off certain pieces from certain articles, etc.

The Speech itself
-Involve the class
-Question the class
-Use of plants in the audience
-Maybe do a demonstration showing a form of punishment, etc (and how that might vary state from state, country from country)
-Get a friend or Audience member to be a dummy for the demonstrations, etc

That's my brainstorming. See if there's anything useful in there.

cheers
dad2
