Activision - Second Circle pad a smart move

The publishers of the Call of Duty franchise, Activision have been quiet about the 3DS but things may be about to change. The upcoming 2nd Analog Stick attachment for the 3DS will make porting Call of Duty much easier for the Giant publisher.

The device got an endorsement from Eric Hirshberg from the company.

It does make the hardware more relevant and compatible to the style of games we make. I don't have anything to announce in relation to that, but I think it was a great move and it opens up that platform to more styles of games.

Discuss your thoughts on what this could mean for the 3DS.

It was smart due to the amount of games that require a second analog stick, but I dunno if I want to play COD on my 3DS and by the sounds of things Monster Hunter wont get released outside Japan so that only leave Conduit 3DS (and I'm sure as hell not getting The Conduit 3DS)

The thing is that the DS COD games sold well and I never bought any of them so there is a market for such games. While I like console style games on my 3DS the market is still a different one.

This is why the DS sits near 150 million units while the Wii, PS3 & X-Box 360 combined have sold less than 200 million units. The big question is, has that market shifted towards the iPhone and other mobile devices?

I think it may have to some extent. But the only buyers they lost are the ones who only wanted to play a couple of games sometimes when they were bored, or other buyers who wereon the borderline of buying one, but due to the expense compared to free aps opted not to.

Cod on the DS is fun, but not competitive or great imo. But there will always be ports, and I just hope they improve now that we have some competition going on, though it is ]unlikely bf3 will ever be on the DS.

Actually Brink they have been strong rumours that a version of Battlefield is indeed in the works for 3DS. Fingers crossed!

I think that the handheld is moving more towards the smartphone and away from dedicated handhelds like the 3DS. I see it selling but I think we are seeing the trend shift to all in one systems. Phone, games, MP3 all in one package is far more compact than having each separate.

I think tho that for children and for the gamers that wish to game on the go having a stand alone system works. This leads me to my next question. Why was the second slider not included to start with? As gaming shifts to faster passed FPS and TPS style games and ports being the norm why was all the needed hardware not in the system to begin with?

Make no mistake, it was a oversight not to include the second slider in the first place but multiple revisions of Nintendo handheld systems are not a new thing.

However to compete with mobile phones, portable game systems need to be better and more focused as is the trend with both the 3DS and Vita.

Nintendo needs to release a phone. That is what it has come down to. There stock has fallen 80% in 4 years. The answer I think is a 3DS phone.

Well it's true that nowadays phones can do almost anything. If the 3ds could text and call people, there is no doubt that the units sold would increase dramatically, but that's just not what Nintendo are aiming to do.

Is it just me, or does the second circle pad seem very far to the edge of the 3ds? I have rather large hands and it looks uncomfortable, then again so does the wii U but that's supposed to be quite comfortable.
