![]() The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D Review Ocarina of Time was originally released for the Nintendo 64 in 1998, and was hailed as the greatest game on the system, if not the best game ever made. It still is hailed as one of the greatest games to ever bless gamers. It's brilliant graphics (for the time), perfect controls, beautiful story, extravagantly fun exploration, and it's major role in the rise of 3D gaming. It's Z-targeting system is still used in games to this day. It is impossible to list all the great things about this game all in one go, but in this review I will try to convince you why it is vital for you to go to the shop right now and buy this game. In this review, instead of looking at the original Ocarina of Time, I am looking at the 3D remake of the game for the 3DS. To start, let me explain something vital to this review: every person I have shown this game to has been stunned by the 3D effect. This game proves that a game's graphics can be brilliant without being beautiful or minimalist or something along those lines. Every time I turn on the 3D, I feel as if I am dragged into Hyrule. Now I am not going to explain the story as it is a large part of the beauty of the game, but if you feel so inclined here is the wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Ocarina_of_Time . Graphics: As I explained above, the visuals in this game are brilliant, however, playing this game without 3D means that you really aren't getting anything visually brilliant. The visuals have been upgraded from the original Nintendo 64 version, but they are still only of Gamecube or PSP quality, nothing like some of the Unreal Engine games on iOS (Infinity Blade). People who have played the original will get some form of nostalgia from the visuals, and will appreciate the visual upgrade, but if you haven't, you won't be surprised. That said, there are some moments in the game that will amaze you no matter what, and you may think it's because of the visuals, but trust me: the graphics aren't great, your brain just won't be able to comprehend the epicness of the game, therefore tricking your eyes into being amazed. I give the graphics 7/10. Single Player: The single player of this game is the only mode, due to it being a Zelda game, but there are some added extras that were not in the original including the master quest (a mirrored version of the game which provides the biggest mindf*ck you will ever experience, which has harder enemies and harder puzzles) and the boss mode (you get to face of against your favourite bosses and you can time yourself and stuff like that). Other than that, the game is largely unchanged, which isn't a bad thing. It is still the masterpiece it was 13 years ago. There is an insane amount of exploring to be had, quests to be completed, puzzles to be solved and golden skulltulas to be hunted. That coupled with the perfectly long main quest and added features creates a single player that will last you for ages. The single player is perfection. Perfection. 10/10. Sound: The music of this game, is the greatest of any game I have ever played. The music is, to me, the greatest and most memorable collection of incidental music (classical musician's way of saying film and game music) since the scoring of the original Star Wars. Just listen to this piece of music from the game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVlqk9yZf2c . The memorability of the music coupled with the minimalism of the midi instruments creates an unforgettable soundtrack. 10/10. Controls: The original version of this game controlled absolutely perfectly, however, in the transition to the 3DS, the control scheme had to be changed in some way to make up for the lack of buttons. Luckily, the 3DS has a touchscreen and a gyro sensor, so the game controls differently, but nearly as well as the original. To get to the point, you have to map some of the weapons and other things (ocarina, navi) to the touchscreen, and you can use the gyro sensor to aim the bow, hookshot, longshot and slingshot. This however fragments the 3D, so you are faced with a choice: use 3D during the aiming moments, and not use the extremely accurate gyro to aim, or not use 3D during aiming and use the gyro. I picked the second one. But other than that, the controls are accurate and responsive. 8.5/10. In conclusion, this game is an unforgettable experience in so many different ways. This review could go on forever about how good it is. If you own a 3DS and not this game, there is something wrong with you so you should stop reading this review right now and buy it in fear of being branded mentally retarded. I went there. If you don't own a 3DS, you can wait until more good games come out for it (Mario Kart 7, Cave Story 3D), but when you do get one, make sure you buy Ocarina of Time with it. I made the mistake of buying Ocarina of Time 1 day after getting my 3DS. Bad decision. This game is one of the few that will go down in history the same way as Van Gogh's self portraits, or Beethoven's Fifth Symphony (not saying that this game is as good as these artworks). This game has perfect aspects, but manages to slide away from perfection with a small few things. The largest of which is that the game is on a handheld. DO NOT I reapeat DO NOT play this game on the go. This game deserves more than that. Sit down in bed with no lights on and headphones on and no with no distractions around. A word of warning, find a good guide for this game as soon as possible to be beside you at all times. 9.5/10. Edited by ANWA-Sephiroth, Sep 16 2011, 09:35 PM.

This game was called '& I Quote' "The Greatest Game In The World TM" By every magazine and game critic around the world when Nintendo first released it. I still have a copy of it for my GameCube I will never get rid of it. |

I tried playing Ocarina of Time from the Collectors Edition on Gamecube and it was too dated. However Ocarina of Time 3DS brings the series up to date and I loved it for all the 44 hours of it I played. At this time the best reason to buy a 3DS. |

This IS the greatest game of all time. I think it is just as challenging, if not more challenging than the recent Zelda games. At times it will leave you furious wondering what to do next. Amazing game. |

Even if I did give it a 9.5, I still believe Twilight Princess was better. |

Well Green, something I have noticed over the years is that games get less difficult, and there are way way way more hints throughout the game given to you than there used to be. Older games tend to let you figure out everything by yourself. That's just my opinion So maybe you've just tricked yourself into thinking that recent games are hard, making the older games seem much harder? |

It took me 44 hours to finish this on 3DS but I did do most of the important side quests. I really loved it all over again. The 3D didn't add too much to the game but made most parts that little more striking! It could have used a 2nd analog stick but did pretty well without it! This will always remain a good purchase for 3DS. |
