An Extra Time goal from Substitute Tadanari Lee with 10 minutes to go was enough to seal Japan's 4th title, and destroy the Socceroo's dreams of a first Asian Cup Final Win. A beautiful cross from Yuto Nagatomo got straight to an unmanned Lee, who volleyed it straight passed Schwarzer, who could do nothing. Australia looked promising early, almost scoring 3 or 4 times in the first half, and looked set to take the Win, but there wastefulness cost them. The second half was more promising, but more wastefulness in front of goal was very frustrating Kewell went agonizingly close to scoring, when he split the defence wide open, but onyl managed to kick it into the goalkeeper. Australia will have to wait once again to try and win the Asian Cup, but I am sure they will be seeking revenge. |

I paid for the sports package for the month just to see this final and man was it so disappointing! I felt Australia dominated the match especially in the 1st half but one great piece of play by the Japanese was enough to end Australia's hopes of their 1st Asian Cup! Damn another 4 years to wait for the next one! |
