Sony formally revealed the heavily-rumored PSP2 in Japan today. The device has been codenamed NGP for "next generation portable." It is set for release by the end of 2011. Pricing information was not provided.

NGP will use a new game medium, a small flash memory based card, dedicated for NGP software titles. The cards will store full game titles and add-on game content or save data. Sony notes that they'll be able to provide higher capacity cards in the future to allow developers to sore more game data.

The NGP contains a touch screen on top and a touch pad on the bottom. This will allow players to interact with games through "touch, grab, trace, push and pull" moves of the fingers.

Ok the PSP2 was officially announced, and it is impressive, but can it really rival the glasses-less 3D of Nintendo's 3DS?

The first PSP was for hardcore gamers, but i enjoy my DS so much more, because it has so many better games than the PSP...

I dunno this hasn't got that wow factor, like the 3DS did... so 3DS here i come :P

The game line-up isn't bad tho...

i disagree scope personally, i think the psp was always directed at more mature people who enjoyed more mature games, many of the ds games are desinged for smaller kids aka pokemon and the sort, the PSP was always the more hardcore version of the ds, and TBH a 3d glassless portable console is just not that good to me, but a more powerful version of the already pretty powerful psp is very intresesting indeed, almost enough to get me back into hand helds

i still have my psp

I was kinda headed in Greens direction. The PSP franchise will be revived by the new games list for it, including Killzone and CoD.

Still, both the DS and the PSP has their pros and cons.
