![]() In a somewhat strange and almost unprofessional manner, the online shop for the Nintendo 3DS, dubbed the "eShop" won't be ready when the system launches this March. Some good news though, Nintendo have ditched Nintendo Points and will now have an actual price associated with each purchase on the Online Store much like the Playstation Store does currently! The Australian release date for 3DS remains unconfirmed but an announcement is due in Sydney on the 8th of February. The 3DS will likely cost $399 Australian dollars when it's released even though our dollar is almost at parity with the US dollar. Still expect some major discounting at launch by retailers trying to capitalise on the event. Edited by Luminal, Jan 21 2011, 04:44 AM.

I like that idea. For 400 dollars i may as well get 4 or 5 ps3 games. Probably better of buying one from the USA. |

thank god they took off the points system its annoying on both Xbox and on Wii... its good that the eShop won't be ready at release, because they probably want to release stuff with it... plus not that many good games r comin out at launch, and Mario Kart and papaer mario will be out later on in 2011 also the price at EB games says 349 so yer and suicide the 3DS will be region locked, so you would have to buy American games as well... |

Ok So the 3DS Shop won't be ready until May 2011. This includes the Virtual Console, internet browser, transfer function for existing DSiWare games and Nintendo's new '3D Classics' titles won't be ready at launch. Some good news though, The 3DS Virtual Console will have games to download from the Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Gear and TurboGrafx-16. Now they just need Neo Geo Pocket, Lynx and Wonder Swan support and they have pretty much have games from every single significant hand held system ever released. |

Sorry if I missed this somewhere along the line, but does the 3DS have GBA capabilities? Or with those come with the "Classics"? I know that you can download the GBA games, but does the 3DS have a GBA slot? |

No and really who would expect Nintendo to bother! The Dsi and even the extra large DSi XL did not have Gameboy support. The virtual console service will allow many new gamers to experience Game Boy games for the first time! |

It will be both R-M-B! Nintendo merged the Wii points card and the DS Points cards into one. Now they are called Nintendo points and they are already available to purchase right now! However new cards will come with dollar value amounts hopefully specifically tailored for the Australian market. Too bad the actual e-store isn't opening until May!

I was looking at the 3DS at EB this afternoon, I have decided to put a lay buy on because I don't want it just yet, I was going to get it for next Christmas but should have it in about 8 weeks now instead, I shall let you know when I eventually get it.

Ned while I love my 3DS, I admit that you can certainly afford to wait! I am really lucky because the two best games on the 3DS are from series that I love! Other than Street Fighter and Ridge Racer, there is nothing really worth getting! When Nintendo bring out the big guns will be the best time to get this bad boy! Still you will not be disappointed with the hardware...it's awesome! |

Yeah the 3DS is awesome but I am already itching for new games. In Super Street Fighter I effectively bought the same game twice. I already own SSF4 on my 360. |

Well the safest bets are still EB Games and Game stores. However you should have asked someone at JB just in case. Anyway the new price related point cards are not yet out! Surely you have seen Wii points cards in the past. These are effectively the same thing but will be updated! |
