![]() According to PALGN there wasn't a huge amount of news to come out of the 3DS focused Nintendo World 2011 event held in Tokyo, Japan. One thing that has surfaced is about the rumoured 3DS award system. Apparently the 3DS reward system will be based around using the device's motion sensor as a pedometer. Just having the device with you as you walk around will earn you coins. These coins will be added to your profile on the 3DS system. Reportedly players will be able to spend these coins in their chosen games to unlock extra levels, weapons, bonuses, and other stuff. The coin system itself will be universal across all games that use the system and any developers are free to do so. |

It's Nintendo way of encouraging people to take their 3DS with them. Also with the system's "spot pass" feature, when you go near a Wifi Hub eg. A Cafe, McDonald's & other 3DS users, the system can download from these different sources and keep your 3DS "wired" to the outside world. |

They are really making this a portable gaming system. It's these new ideas that keep Nintendo a step ahead of their competitors I guess! |

This award system could turn out to be really cool too. Still it's a very different system to the award systems on PS3 and X-Box 360 but I guess a portable system does call for a different strategy! As for the 3DS generally? I am happy to pay for the 3DS hardware but the increase in software prices has left me unimpressed. Still I never doubt Nintendo on the portable front! They are gonna sell a ton of 3DS systems. Also as the system is more powerful than the Wii and can handle many ports from PS3/ 360, many of the Nintendo faithful may upgrade sooner rather than later. |

I really hope not. Then only Bob, Green and you could use it...LMAO! P.S A pedometer is just a step counter. It counts how many steps you have walked each day etc. Edited by Luminal, Jan 13 2011, 09:31 PM.

This is a pretty sick idea it encourages people to exercise? Lol It's good that you can actually spend these points on in game stuff. I'm still amazed that such a small device has even better graphics than the Wii. Makes me embarrassed I play the Wii... |

I would get a 3DS but it most likely won't be R4 compatible Before you ask, a R4 is like a chip for the DS. U download games off of the internet and transfer it onto the DS Its saved me a loooooot of money |

More details have emerged about the 3DS Play Coins feature! As confirmed previously you get coins by walking around with your Nintendo 3DS which encourages people to take their system out with them so StreetPass and SpotPass can be utilised. 100 steps walking around will earn you 1 Play Coin and you can only earn 10 Play Coins per day. Also your 3DS can can only store 300 Play Coins at any one time. Play Coins will be used in a variety of ways by developers depending on the game or application. Launch title Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition will allow you to gamble with play coins for the chance of earning a new Battle Figure. Expect to see more and more innovative reasons to spend your play coins! Edited by Luminal, Feb 14 2011, 02:38 PM.
