A good friend of mine is looking to come out to Aus with her family. Problem is, her son has autism (although they don't know any more than that at the moment as he is waiting for more tests etc.). Having done lots of Googling on the subject all she can come up with is that they won't get in. Is this the case? I'm sure some of you have autistic (or other) children that have come over here and I wondered if your children were diagnosed before you came, did you have any problems with the visa process etc.? If you would prefer to PM me please do, of course everything will be in strictest confidence :) Thanks in advance :flowers: |

Nakita was diagnosed before we came here but with ADHD, dyslexia and dyspraxia. I remember at the time people saying you wouldn't get in but, if I remember correctly, the question never even arose as she wasn't on medication so it didn't show up anywhere. Sorry it's not much help as not autism |

I don't think it's impossible but it would be very unlikely that they would get a permanent residence visa. They really need to speak to an agent with experience of medical conditions. George Lombard has been recommended in the past. I suppose they would not have considered much beyond thinking about a visa but I think it's wise they do. From what I can gather the support for autism in Australia is pretty crap compared to the UK so emigrating could actually be detrimental to their child. |

Thanks Bix, yes I already sent them contact details for an agent as I really think that's their best bet. They are hoping to go to Melbourne, I will tell them to research support etc! |

Bix is spot on. Niall gets no funding whatsoever. Luckily his school have a massive budget and fund his aides out of their pockets, without that he'd be totally on his own and getting no where! |
