Looks like I'll be out of a job on Thursday :( It's been on the cards for a while, the school has shrunk in numbers over the past few years and we really can't justify the tuckshop/uniform shop employees although I'm the only Uniform person. My hours were cut end of last year and I honestly didn't think I'd have a job to go back to after the op. Bit naffed off though, there's one other who's on more hours than me but who does bugger all and won't consider new ideas but hey, life's a bitch and all that.

The Principal came to see me today, asked how busy I'd been yadda yadda yadda then says we need to have a meeting on Thursday to discuss my hours. What the fricking hell for? Seriously I'm so p##sed off that she couldn't just come right out and say 'sod off'. No, now I have to faff around until Thursday just waiting to be told.

Absolutely nothing out there, been through (been doing it for weeks) the online job sites and seriously there is nothing. I've registered with Woolies  but fairly sure nothing will come of that so now we'll be even broker than we already were.

Good job I've had my op, at least I don't have that to worry about :brickwall:

I do feel for you, I've been looking for so long myself and there does appear to be jobs round here but I haven't got a thing. You'll have more of a chance of finding something via word of mouth so just tell everyone and anyone who'll listen and hope it pays off really quickly :flowers:

why are tey laying you off and not her? is it last in first out? is there any discrimination thing going on ... due to you having your op they arent picking on you out of convenience are they? :(

dunno if its a possible, but a couple of months ago some parents in sheffield who were really hacked off with the extortionate costs of uniforms all got together to form a workers co-op and started sourcing cheaper uniforms. they are up and running out of one of the markets (crystal peaks market in sheffield - dunno if they have a website) and provide uniforms for most schools in sheffield at a cheaper price. worth looking in to? i know its one thing ive noticed from most of the forums over the years is the consistent complaint about the cost of uniforms - perhaps a business idea for you?

If it was last in first out she'd be the one to go. It's easier to get rid of me. In the short term anyway. In a couple of months the Uniform Shop will pick up again and be really busy for about five months - it's how it works but for now they can manage. A bit of juggling would need doing to get shot of 'her' but it would work. It's one of those complicated things that those in charge can't be bothered to work around. She's me only in the tuckshop but she's not open to creating new menus and the current one is really tired and boring so students aren't coming through as much. If they got shot of her, the others would be able to put other stuff on, and bring up sales figures. However, the Principal and the new accountant have discussed it amongst themselves and haven't discussed the ins and outs with any of us so they're obviously going the easy route without finding out the facts.

I'm over it. I like the business idea, honestly can't see it working at this school for various reasons but it's nice to hear about the parents actually having a voice and being able to do something. Something will come up, I'm just over having nonstop sucky stuff happening. Hell, we're all alive and the bucket is shiny

Remember the saying we are only given what we can cope with and can handle?
Well, I think that's just so much ballshite.

Why does a shorter straw pop out?
I dunno but I do believe attitude is a large part of getting through and you have the right one for that.

Is your uniform and canteen run by the school or the P&C?

It really is shit when you see someone who is just holding the thing back getting their own way, but if it's run by the school then I'd guess it's probably bottom of their priority list and so much easier for them to just "leave things be". Really infuriating I know.

Stay positive for tomorrow, maybe she has something else up her sleve for you, if not something else will come along. Think about doing something like I'm doing, it's not as hard or horrible as it seems and I first started it when we had no other option and it was a case of I'd do anything. It saved us from losing everything and well here I am again doing it voluntarily to get the extras I want for the family, with many companies now having no start up costs there is nothing to lose. Really hope that tomorrow turns out to be something you didn't expect (in a good way)

Sorry, thought I'd posted on Thursday. Nah, got my marching orders. Three weeks notice but then next day they called in Carol who overseas both Uniform and Tuckshop to tell her - hadn't done beforehand which I thought a bit odd but anyway, she said if she were me that she'd have no intention of working for the three weeks so could they pay me for the time instead and they agreed so I go in tomorrow, sign whatever, pick up separation certificate, say goodbyes and head off for coffee at the surf club with a friend then off to Centrelink - whoo hoo!

Carol rang me to tell me about the money and she was in tears bless her and just a bit p##sed off. She agreed with me that it should have been last in first out and that they shouldn't have separated the two areas but she's also grateful that she keeps her hours. I think they still have to cut another 6 or 7 hours so they're not safe yet.

The principal did offer me three hours one day a week which I thought was a bit of an insult to be honest but she obviously thought she was doing me some sort of favour.

I can 2nd that statement! They do tend to keep the rotten apples that don't give a shit and send the good ones packing or off to look for other work due to the idiots that seem to haunt the halls!

We had really high hopes for this principal but a few years down the line she appears to be losing it. I'm kind of glad that Abs only has a little over a year to go. It'll be weird not having total access to her teachers though, or stopping for a long chat with some of the staff, ah well onward and upward.

Why is it, when someone is giving the speech about profit and loss and how they can't afford to keep you blah blah blah they always come out with the 'it's nothing personal' line? It fricking is from the other side of the table  :D

Centrelink was painless. Was directed to a phone, called a number and made an appointment for a phone interview on Friday. Goodbyes were painless although I left a few people in shock and now worrying about their jobs :S Coffee was excellent and the weather perfect, shame I can't afford to do it as much as I'd like  Seen a job I'm probably going to apply for. Not sure I'm what they're looking for but they can only say no. Well they could say nothing at all of course :D
