Yes, it will cost jobs in some industries, especially the coal and transport industries. Yes, we will be worse off. Someone has to pay this tax, no matter how much compensation is given to some of us. All industries affected by this tax will pass the cost on to the consumers. 10 Jul 2011 – Prime Minister Julia Gillard says around 90% of households will receive income tax cuts and direct payments under the Government's carbon. 90% that sounds good. But... how big are these cuts ? I found this example: a single earning $85,000 will receive $3 a year from the tax cuts but face a $463 increase in the cost of living. And what does Julia Gillard really think about it... The face never lies... Posted Image |

Its just another crock of shit to make Australia a laughing stock, has it never even crossed Ms Gillards mind that she is shafting her own people for f##k all?? I know sod all about politics/policies/tax etc, never had much interest in it and TBH it depresses me when I start to think about it, but in the scant 5 seconds I've wasted on thinking about this one one thought is why the hell are we doing thins when the likes of the US and China are not?? IMO the woman is an idiot and should be shown the door very quickly. |

Is it time to act? Not just for the sake of it and not at any cost. will the 40,000th of a percent in climate change be worth it? There will be no overall reduction in carbon generated. will it lose us jobs? Yes. If you increase the cost of doing business it does cost jobs. will we be worse off? Yes, we will pay irrespective of any tax concessions. May be more indirectly than we can envisage at the moment but we will pay. This is all about generating taxation in one form or another. will it actually reduce carbon emmisions at all? No. Consumption and population continues to grow. That growth will outweigh this attempt to force savings. It might reduce the per capita consumption in Australia (yes, a good thing) but the overall carbon generation will continue to rise. will it make more jobs in sustainable energy? No. That is going to happen irrespective of any carbon tax. |

To me the basic philosophy is totally screwed. They are going to tax the worst polluters, but only some of them, and give the money away to non polluters. Erm  if you seriously want emissions reduced shouldn't that tax money be used to find and pay for solutions? Edited by BIX, Jul 13 2011, 03:22:39 PM.

I totally agree with you, Bix. However, she's too stupid to consider R&D. Much better to hand out money to people who could keep her in power. Edited by Ellie, Jul 14 2011, 03:52:59 PM.
