There is a story on Today Tonight, today (Tuesday 28th June) I think, about food prices in Aus, UK, NZ and USA. I was contacted by Today Tonight, this morning, to provide some info, re my www.britzinoz.com website, but didn't answer them in time to answer more questions, and I said I didn't fancy talking about it (the thought of talking on air gives me the shivers). I'll be watching this episode to see what is said about the differences in prices. |

They do seem to repeat many stories, I suppose to catch the new viewers. I'll be interested to compare their cost of Australian food, to the price of Australian food that I buy :D I have no real idea now of the cost of UK food, other than what I see on supermarket websites. |

The prices that are often quoted in many of these surveys often has me puzzled. Take Milk for example:
You say you pay £1.49 for 2 litres, presumably that is just normal milk ? We pay from $1.99 to $2.09 for 2 litres, and this has been the same now for about a year, with no change, other than Woolworths and Coles recently dropping their price to the same as everyone else. That $3.69 for 2 litres is a price that horrifies me, but I did just try to see what it might actually be: These are the closest options I can see at Woolworths today: $3.57 Pauls Milk Smarter White Bottle 2L $3.56 Pauls Trim Milk Reduced Fat Bottle 2L $3.57 Dairy Farmers Milk Shape No Fat Bottle 2L $3.72 Physical Milk Low Fat Vitamin D Bottle 2L I wonder if they do compare like to like ? This is the one I buy at Woolworths: $2.00 Homebrand Milk Whole Bottle 2L |

Really! We pay a dollar per litre here for milk. So a 3 ltr bottle of milk is $3 :) And then there are still often offer lower than that. |

Milk has just gone up. That price was for semi skimmed milk I don't usually go to supermarket to buy milk, it's only if we need extra as I have a milkman (and pay slightly more but I like having milk delivered). I have just gone to Tesco Express for millk (no delivery today and boys have gone mad on milk lately). I have paid £1.10 for 2 L of SS Organic milk. So Sainsbury's is a rip off ! there was an article on the news recently about the price of milk here (thats all well and good, but what about the price of lettuce!!???? ), and the reason why milk is so expensive in supermarkets is because its the mark up they put on it to make a profit. the farmer only gets a minimal amount per litre, according to the news was just enough to cover the cost of production! when you think that the farmer gets something like 40p/L, the supermarkets make about 70-80p/L!!!! I buy locally produced milk at about £1/L and the majority of the money goes to the farmer - the shop gets about 10p/L. I also buy most of my food from an outlet ... so i pay about 75% less anyway !!!! |

I'd love one of those co-op type places around here like the one that was on the tv programme a short while ago, less choice but cheaper and as much locally grown/sourced products as possible. I have a veggie box delivered now which supplies more than enough each week. I get 2 fruit - yep sometimes its imported but look at our climate ! and 5 types of veg, during winter i admit it was getting repetitive at times but was ok. They try to source as much from local farmers as possible. |

I'm jealous, that's a total of 30 cents less than me, I think I had better shop around again  Actually I just bought milk and bread at Woolworths, for convenience. (1.29c for the loaf of bread and $2.00 for the 2L of milk). That's a whole 18% higher than yours, and 7% higher than my normal price.. |

Hehe well that's the price at the spud shed. The bread has always been that price but the milk dropped when the supermarkets went to $2. The milk is now being advertised as $1.69 too |
