does anyone have one ? would you recommend one ? I am serioulsy thinking of getting one, but keep holding back from it. if you have one do you get a lot of use from it and what do you use it for. Can you download books to it like you can a Kindle as I was going to get one of those, but as you can add apps etc to the Ipad I thought I'd get more use from it (would I) ? Our laptop is only 2 years old but is terrible, it's slow and noisy. I thought an Ipad would be better for taking away on holiday (grrr would rather not but our villa we are staying in as wifi so boys can access FB etc). It's not something I just want to buy to take on holiday, it's something that I want to use more than I do the laptop at the moment. If you have one, what accessories come with it and what do you have to buy ? thank you any help/advice great appreciated as I'm a techno phobe. Also there is the blackberry tablet thingy that is out as well - anyone know anything about those ? |

I am busy teaching my year 2's how to use one. We managed to obtain a government grant and have a class set plus two for teachers. Terry wanted to buy me an ipad last year and I told him I didn't want one. What a complete idiot I was!!!!!!! Not sure how I would get on with the touch screen for a keyboard (don't do much of that with the kids) but otherwise the er, educational ;) bits are great! |

I'm bringing my ipad over hun if you want to try before you buy !! It's the first one though. It depends what you want it for. My aim was to be able to be on facebook whilst watching tv and I can do that but I can't play any games as it doesn't support adobe acrobat. Also no slot for a usb or data stick. I do use it for tv listings and googling whilst in front of tv though as well as some of the apps but much prefer my desktop to the ipad. However, on hols I will be able to do all my banking, emails etc without having to borrow someones laptop or have my mum yell at me that I've been on it for 2 minutes and my time is up. As for accessories, I just have a case and one of those beanbag things meant for books so it's upright for viewing. So really it depends what you want it for. It does not replace a PC/laptop you would use it as well as. |

I forgot to say that I have no idea what a kindle is but you can download books to the ipad. They are very expensive though in my opinion. |

The iPad 2 appears to have something for USB.
HOWEVER.... maybe not:
A bit more info to consider:
ie: The iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G takes a mobile phone sim card for connectivity, the basic one does not. |

I don't really see the point of an iPad + 3G to be honest. I use mine at home where we have wifi and when we go away everywhere we stay has free Wifi. You can download games Deb, same as an iPhone only bigger screen ! Some facebook games you can get apps for eg farmville, on my iPad I can log on to my farm and harvest etc just not the full game but near enough. As that game is owned by zynga which seems to be the main company with the facebook games I suspect it may only be a matter of time before they're all on there. |

I really really wanted an Ipad but spoke to a few people who have had them for a while and, like H, have found they only do half the job and all of the people say that they still need their lappy as well....so? whats the point? I got a kindle for my BD and LOVE it! I havent charged it since the day I had it and theres 3/4 of the battery left. Theres no back light so you can read it outside etc with no glare, theres no glare from lamps etc either. ALSo the after care from Amazon is apparently second to none and if you damage it/ it stops working they send you a new one FOC! I bought Maos last dancer for $7 BUT Matt has got me a list of about 900 books from a torrent and they were free obviously. THEN once you have them downloaded you can share them with friends, like real books. You can also acces FB apparently but I havent done it yet. You can also add notes, keep highlights etc and you can organise all of you books into collections etc. I LOVE mine and its with me most of the time just in the side pocket of my bag, way easier than carrying a book.... |

ok i'm taking all this on board. I just love books though and think i will find it hard to read on either an ipad or a kindle - it's not just the reading of a book - its THE book as a whole - if you get what I mean. It just won't be the same as a book (well obvs not lol). thing is going on holiday the weight is restricted and while Im great at packing and what we take, I have been known to take a fair few books on holiday and of course they can weigh a lot. ho humm |

hmmm, thats what i think when my oh offered to get me a kindle. i like the feel of the paper and the smell of the book ... silly i know, speshly if the book has been someone not quite desirable!!!! but i like the feel of a whole book. I also worry about the risk of an ipad/kindle being lifted out of my bag - im careful, dont get me wrong - but i worry it may make me a target for some tosser. when i went to london in april on the train i was amazed at the number of people who had notebooks/ipads/kindles who left them in the top of their bags or on the table and fell asleep ... call me cynical but i was just waiting for someone to yell theirs had been nicked. |

I would love an Ipad 2, I almost bought one a few months ago, but ended up getting a new lap top instead, and and now cant really justify getting an Ipad 2, but I still want one  I love my Kindle too and carry that around everywhere. |

Then there's times like now when I go to log on my pc and my user profile is corrupt, I can't do anything and have 'lost' everything. Have spent all day trying to mend it with no luck so my iPad is my only contact with the world ! Now, how do I get everything back on my pc ?? |

I love the ipad, when john bought it I thought, yup, another waste of money ona boys toy, but no, for us it is the bollocks. I never go anywhere in the car without it going to so the littlies can play on it, watch movies, read books, be read to by a talking book etc etc etc. when we were on holiday I would havw read on it if I could have got my hands on it, so read on my iphone instead. If I'm at my desk I use my laptop, anywhere else it's the ipad. The stuff you can get on it for the kids both educational and just fun is amazing. For me I don't do games but I use it for internet stuff and watching downlaoded stuff. Only problem I have is getting to use it, even though everyone in the house except the littlies has a laptop. All that from a complete techo hater..... oh and my 84 year old mum loves it too. |
