seeing as we probably wont be able to go to aus (although i havent totally given up on the idea), i find myself in the middle of a mass exodus amongst my friends and family to australia ... specifically adelaide  where we were going.

cousin who is a nurse just secured a job ... in adelaide ...
stepdaughter off to work as a nanny or teacher (just finished uni) in aus ... in adelaide ...
2 friends left in january to backpack round the world, ending with a years trip to aus ... staying last 6 months in adelaide...
1 friend has a 3 year visa, working in research at the uni ... in adelaide ...
another friend and his family have gone travelling round aus ... whilst waiting for thier visa ... settling in adelaide ...
one of my previous students has just qualified, and is applying for a visa when shes done her year postgrad ... to go to adelaide ...
2 doctors i work with have both got fellowship spr posts and leave in the next month ... in adelaide ...

... :banghead-ground: :banghead2: :brickwall: :upset:

aww bless  Maybe they'll all be back soon saying it was too expensive in Australia and that they missed blighty, then you'll think you had a lucky escape. :dunno:

I know how it feels, after getting back here and trying to settle all I found I was hearing was people going off to Australia - like my neighbours off to Adelaide, friends of friends going off - they found it so easy to get in (humph), friends relatives going etc. I find it hard to deal with at times as I hate being resentful and jealous but it niggles a bit at times

I get where you're coming from  although personally I look back now at the life I had in the UK and wish I had realised just how good I had it.

However, it just cuts you up to think 'I wish .... ' life is exactly what you make of it, you are where you are and need to think of all the positives of that and you get to visit the other side of the world for beautiful holidays and not have to pay the extortionate prices or even think about them :flowers:

 my friend who is the research scientist doesnt particularly like adelaide - shes renting a house in mawson lakes as its close to the uni, and doesnt like driving so tends to go to work and then home. the friends who are backpacking love adelaide and cant wait to get back there. she told them it was boring and there was nothing to do ... :mah: but as she is earning a fortune shes sticking it out so she can save money and buy a house back in blighty when her three years are up!

Most Exceptional Lady

One of my friends is a real ping pong pom, she lived in Sydney, met her husband and lived there for a few years, then they moved back to London (where I met her as we both worked at the Whittington Hospital as midwives), she then moved back to Australia, to Brisbane this time. I met up with her a few times when she was here and she constantly moaned about everything, the humidity and heat in summer, the schools, the shops etc. She moved back to the UK about a year ago, lasted nine months, moved to Adelaide in March this year, hated it, and last week has moved back to Brisbane once again
