Two things of main interest to many people:

$17,000 grant for a new home in Queensland
To help the housing construction sector recover, the Government will provide a $10,000 grant towards the construction or purchase of a new home for six months starting 1 August 2011. Available for properties valued up to $600,000, the grant will be for everyone including first homebuyers, other homebuyers and investors.
This will be in addition to the Federal Governments $7,000 First Home Buyers Grant.

Queensland Ambulance Levy Abolished
To reduce cost of living pressures on Queensland households and businesses, the Government will abolish the Community Ambulance Cover levy from 1 July 2011. This represents around $113 in savings in 2011-12 to each of the 1.4 million electricity account holders that would otherwise be liable for the levy.

ABC, do you know if we now have to pay for ambulance cover separately, if we want it? Or will it be covered by the Government

In our paper today it says it's a $113 per year saving but the cost of electric will be rising by $120.

Premier Anna Bligh said the ambulance service would remain free for all Queenslanders.

As Bix said, the Ambulance service now becomes a FREE service for us in Queensland, ie: covered by the Government.

At least the saving covers this years approximate Electricity price rises :crossfingers:

I paid out $1,927.93 in 2010 ($107.44 was Ambulance Levy)

My power costs are so far $210 higher than the first 2 quarters of last year, so that $113 has already been wiped out for me.

Consumption up 6%
Cost up 21.5%

Therefore real increase 14.6% based on average kWh charge going from $0.18066 to $0.2071.

Hope the solar panels help out when they are turned on, at Energex's convenience.
