wow - why weren't these things around when I was younger ???

T's school told us of the convention on this weekend and I dragged both girls kicking and screaming into the place. I then had to drag them back out fully laden down with books and freebies with Tallulah now adamant she wants to study Law and Criminology at a uni in either Sydney or the Gold Coast  and Nakita has discovered that she could go to uni after all as there were some small places there in WA we'd never heard of which specialised in graphic design, 3D animation etc I also managed to pick up a small gift for Paul - a freebie plastic wristband with 'do you want a career in bricklaying ?' inscribed on it

I studied law at uni, and for every hour of lecture a week you need to do at least 10 hours study to follow it up. its a lot of reading ... and once you get behind its very difficult to catch up, so warn her she needs to be extremely disciplined and dedicated.

if she is, she will shine

i didnt ... :blushing:

I didn't pass my law exams, got a referral twice then gave up.
(referral was allowing me to take that individual paper again)

Anyway, in my opinion, the law IS an ass :)

They are great

Leah decided a while ago that she wanted to do psychology, but every one keeps saying its a trend ATM, poor kid, its what she really wants to do though! She likes the idea of phobias and addictions as her specialty, its a 6 year road mind you :omg: "" In order to register as a psychologist you need to complete a four year degree in psychology, followed by two years of practical experience under appropriate supervision. You can get your two years practical work by doing a coursework masters or doctoral degree, which involve a lot of practical placements"
This is what prompted the school change as she felt she wouldnt get the enter that she needed at the last school. She had to drop biology and is now doing sociology, taught by the psych teacher, she is LOVING it and says its helping understand a lot of the psych stuff.

Its great that they have a goal H, even if they change directions in the end, at least when they choose their year 11 subjects they have an idea of WHAT to do IYKWIM?

Abs is in grade 11 and still has absolutely no idea what she wants to do. I told her I don't know what I want to do when I grow up either.

I don't actually care what she ends up doing but with this goal I know she'll get her head down at school and will be motivated to do well at school and that's all I ask. One of the asks for a score of 99.69 :omg:

Dont think Holly has ever been to a careers convention or anything like that, despite me offering to take her

She wants to do primary school teaching, not for any other reason than the long holidays, weekends off and not working nights. She also made the comment that she could go clubbing at the weekend and not have to worry about meeting any of the students as they would be too young. I told her she might meet the parents though

I have to say both the girls were dead against going but I wanted to go .. so I did and dragged them with me ! Just because you're more mature doesn't mean you can't go. The unis also did stuff for mature students and there were the police and customs and loads of other workers represented

I still dont know what I want to be when I grow up

I actually only became a nurse because I knew it was the only way my Mum would let me leave home and live in London, it was impossible to get into nurse training back in Ireland in the late 80's, so heaps of irish girls went to the UK to do their nurse training.

I got into Uni in Ireland to do an Arts Degree but as it was University of Galway, my mothers sister lived there, and they arranged between them that I could live with her :omg: and seriously that is the reason I decided to do nursing instead.

I am glad I did nursing and midwifery as its given me the opportunity to travel and have lots of different jobs, but I sometimes wish I had done something else, no idea what though.
