I have just managed to reconnect our internet after being without it for hours. Holly was on main pc last night when it went off, not sure what she did but anyway was unable to reconnect. I did all the usual, turned everything off, unplugged and plugged everything back in, turned off firewall but nothing would fix it.

I have just managed to get it back by connecting main pc to the modem, disconnecting the wireless router, so now have internet back on this pc but no wireless for the laptops.

As I unplugged everything from the back of the Dlink wireless router, I am unsure what to plug back in correctly. I have power cable plugged in, yellow cable with phone plug ends plugged in to local network port on the router and other end into pc. There is also another black cable with phone ends, not sure whether this plugs into the wan/wlan port on the router or into a local network port. I am really reluctant to mess around unplugging cables and changing them around again in case I disconnect everything all over again.

I really miss Shane being home at times like this, as apart from him, I am the only person with a small amount of technical knowledge (and thats not much) but the rest of the family are useless.

So please anyone any idea on the correct way to reconnect the wireless router :flowers:

Its the same as the second pic, just not sure where to plug the cables into. I have a yellow cable with what look like telephone plugs on each end which I know to plug into the Lan Ports, and a black cable that is currently plugged into the main modem, but not sure where to plug that in on the wireless router.

Thanks ABC, I really am hopeless with this.

Fixed it for now, plugged the black cable into the WAN port and its all working again, but still dodgy as keeps disconnecting often.

Thinking of changing internet providers soon and might even get rid of land line and just have internet phone.

It may be time to upgrade the modem/router.

I had one of the Di-524 type, and had frequent disconnections. I upgraded to a newer Netgear, and most of my problems went away.

The Billion BiPAC 7300N gets a good rating, and Billion have always been good, but a bit more expensive than many. ($129 for the Billion 7300N)

Some ideas here: http://www.cnet.com.au/internet-networking/modems-routers/

The Netgear DGN-2000 (wireless N type) is good, from about $99

The D-Link shown is a G type.

N = Faster (up to 300Mbps)
G = Older and slower (speed up to 54Mbps)

You may be able to get guidance or confirm the cabling by selecting your model from the drop down menu on here Mel.
