The girls and I are heading over to the UK for a holiday in July. Last time we went we entered on our UK passports and our Aus ones when we cam back. I have noticed that both of the girls will have less than 6 months left on their UK passports when we go back so we'll have to use our Aus ones to enter the UK. In this case .. does anyone know if we need to get a visa ?

No you don't. You will just need to fill out a landing card and put your nationality as Australian.

Australians used to need a Visa to enter France, but my wife, Australian passport holder, never needed a Visa for UK, Switzerland or Italy.

You'd need one if you were staying longer than six months. You don't need six months left to enter UK but you would if you were using your UK ones in Singapore or somewhere like that and you can use your Aussie ones for the trip anyway. That makes so much sense in my head but it may sound rubbish.

So they could use their uk ones to enter the uk even though they'll only have a few months left on them then use their aus ones for Dubai and back to Aus ?

I think you need to check on the UK passport site - it's confusing as I think it also depends on where you are travelling to (and maybe from).

I think I'm going mad .. of course they don't need 6 months on their UK passports to enter the UK as they're not seen as going on holiday but returning home !!! Duh. I seriously need a brain transplant

If you intend renewing their uk Passports I think it would be loads cheaper to do it while you are there rather than here, but that could be bollocks too.

I thought that too Lynn so have looked into it. It would be a lot cheaper to do it in the UK via the postal service, but it's unlikely that we'll still be there when the passports come back and I'm not keen on my dad sending them through the post to here. If you look at the cost of getting the passports in a day (which is what we were going to do), with the exchange rate, it wasn't much different. Shame really as the postal service one is soooooo much cheaper

You need six months plus to go through Dubai on a UK passport. I suggest you travel on your Aus ones.Just use the Aus ones and have no hassle.
