$500 was the difference on ours between a policy without flood cover, and with.

Unfortunately that is the figure that I have been expecting to be the result of changes to having to have flood cover.

Hopefully that $500 you have been quoted is to cover a change of policy conditions, and not just an increase for the same cover.

Victoria abolishes fire services levy on insurance

This was an extra charge on insurance policies that, when combined with extra taxes, has had the effect of almost doubling annual premiums for businesses.

Until yesterday, only Victoria and NSW still maintained the levies, which the insurance industry has been campaigning against because of the compounding tax problem and because they are inequitable.

The removal, which was greeted positively by all major insurers, will force the Victorian authorities to finance fire services with a levy on property rates, as in other states.

Unless of course they have change again ?
