Yesterday, in one of our local camping sites, there was a gas explosion at 3am and subsequently the dad (48), son (16) and daughter (13) all died.

Today's paper is reporting friends of the family as saying that they had nowhere else to live and had moved there a week ago.

It's very sad that they died, I can't stop crying. The kids are the same (ish) ages as mine and although my kids didn't know them directly they knew of them. The question I have is what on earth were they doing there ? Why weren't they found emergency housing ? I just can't get over the bit I've highlighted, 'friends', I would move heaven and earth before I'd let any of my friends live in a tent. Now I don't know the full story and it is so early on but I do hope all the right questions are asked and answers found and this never happens again.

I am also upset as this could be any one of us, loss of jobs, ever increasing costs, banks happy to up the interest rates on the loans and not help out when needed and then more than happy to take your keys off you to add to the pile. I bet that family are not unique  and that is just not right.

I had heard of this through Sandra's Daughter - I was under the impression that only the son had died though.

Sadly I don't think it's unusual - I've heard of people living in cars and all sorts because there's no accommodation for them. In a state that's booming from its resources it's pretty disgusting really.

A very very sad thing, but why were the kids staying in a tent and not in a house with the mum and her partner at least until the dad sorted out something else?
