..down the road to me. I live in a very lovely leafy part of Berkshire and the whole area has been disrupted by a forest fire and not just a small one either (for here). Started around 1pm when I was coming home from shops and is still going strong now. Apparently its all under control which is nice to hear trouble is its so windy today and don't envy the poor firefighters at all. Air is thick with smoke and ash is falling along with the tree pollen. Had to take Luke into Bracknell (5 mins down road) took ages due to road closures all around - all the main routes in and out of Crowthorne/Sandhurst shut due to fire. (it's Swinley Forest / The look out Anne if you are interested and know that area). Sirens still going strong too. And I was going to take Ugly out up there this evening too. No doubt it's arsonists

As soon as I saw your post I was wondering (before I opened) if it was somewhere local I know. Had we gone the Beckhams route of child naming, Alex would've ended up as The Lookout Gates ;)

Saddens me to hear this. It's a lovely area and I know Terry will be sad to hear of all his stomping ground on fire. Hope they get onto it soon. Must surely have been started deliberately :dunno:

Hey Debs, I bet you thought you'd left the risk of forest fires behind ?!!

Hope it's put out fast though, smoke will cause a lot of havoc to a lot of people too

this fire has been going on for a week tomorrow. While all of the top burning has gone, it's the dry peat underground that is burning badly and it's travelling. We had rain on Saturday night and we had plenty of it but they say we need a weeks worth to dampen it all down enough to stop any more flare ups. It's caused roads to close and while this may not seem much its the 2 main roads in and out of Crowthorne which means a huge diversion around Wokingham. Have to praise all the firefighters though - crews from 7 counties invovled in it all.
