It's mud wasp nests.

They build them in any nook and cranny they can find.
Often at the inside corners of walls or windows.

I've never seen multiple ones together like this before.

Usually dig it away with an old screwdriver then wash them away with a hose. The nests look soft but are in fact quite hard.

I was giving all the outdoor furniture a steam clean and found this lot in a folded up sunbed.

Here's a close up.....

They're about 2 inches long.

Yes, sorry.
I called them nests but they are in fact where they lay their young not where they live.

One I broke open a while back was more of a blob and inside were 2 compartments.
Wriggly green grub in one and what looked like dead insects in another presumably food for the grub.

Never seen em clustered together like that before, hubby usually scrapes em off with a spade then squashes whateva is inside, then just hoses them down the drain. I have learned one thing livin in Aus I'm not as squeamish as I thought I was.

We're forever scraping them out of the gaps between the bricks but our bricks are a cream colour and we're always left with a brown mark that does not come off. Evil bloody things, those wasps. We get a fair few smaller versions of your pic on the supporting beams of the car port roof - they don't last long either.

We have the same trouble.

It's the iron oxide in the soil that stains everything.
Anything you get the red soil on is marked forever.
