Does anyone know what growing pains feel like ?

Tallulah came to us in the middle of the night crying in pain (she never cries but does whinge and can be a drama queen) with her leg. Said it was really painful could barely walk and woke her up in the night. We assumed it was cramp, Paul tried manipulation, heat, ice, rest, everything but she saying it's still really painful and can't put any weight on her leg .. could it be growing pains ? I'm terrible with stuff like this and tend to ignore it  and then get worried and go to A & E  whereas Paul is more sensible. Could it be growing pains ? I've never had them myself .. do they exist ?

She's been having stomach/rib problems too for a few months which have only just started getting better and the dr reckoned it could have been pyshcological (sp? sorry, am knackered)

Yes, growing pains do exist but in my experience they were more like an achy type of pain rather than an acute pain.

I'd get her checked out just in case.

Growing pains do exist, but am not sure they would be so severe that she could not walk on her leg. If an ice pack and panadol are not helping then I would definitely get her checked out. You could always phone Health Direct 1800 022222 for an assessment and more advice.

Heather used to suffer terrible growing pains when she was around the 11/12 mark. Felt like really bad cramps but in the joints, not the muscles. I just gave her Panadol and warm deep baths. Abs sometimes ached but never anything like Heather.

I used to get growing pains, as does lucy - shes now 5ft 9 and still only 13! her legs used to keep her awake at night ... she said they hurt all up and down, especially at the front and in her knees. I used to give regular paracetamol and ibuprofen, and they never lasted longer than a night. she still gets the odd twinge ... but i tend to try and ignore any whinging (as im such a miserable mum!) and tell her to take an ibuprofen tablet if they start playing up.

I used to have really bad "Growing Pains" when I was young, and so did my daughter a year or so ago, age (11/12/13 ish)

The severity varies a lot between children. I used to spend ages massaging her calf muscles to ease the pain, then bought her an electric handheld massager, but then found that a Paracetamol worked quite well.

I did look up growing pains, and they are nothing to do with growing, or so they say. But I wonder why it is mainly only the growing children that get them ?

Thanks everyone .. turns out she had some problem with her muscle, Paul said he could feel it as a really tight ball. So he rubbed some stuff in and she had a warm bath and now there's nothing wrong with her except a bit of lazyitus !! I truly am shocking with this stuff and usually find if I ignore it long enough they get better !
