Flies

I think my hatred of flies has finally caught up with me. One of my reasons for leaving Melbourne was because of the flies, they were the worse I have ever encountered until this morning!!!!

Normally we never have many flies around in Brisbane, I think the humidity puts them off. Lots of mozzies but hardly any flies, and even the few we get are normally not too annoying, nothing like the aggressive Melbourne flies. The ocassional ones that get through the fly screens into the house are quickly dealty with by swatting with a plastic fly swat.

This morning I came downstairs and thought I was seeing things. I could hear buzzing before I even walked into the kitchen, and there all over the cupboard doors, kitchen windows, patio doors, walls and laundry window were thousands of big black flies. I seriously thought I was seeing things. I have never seen anything like it in my life.

I have absolutely no idea how or where they got into the house. All windows and doors were closed.

I used a whole can of killer spray, but they were buzzing and flying around everywhere.

I got Holly and Zac up as was taking them out for hair cuts anyway, and just before we left I set off three bombs, one in the kitchen, one in the family area, and one in the front room. I put the cats in Zac's bedroom and shut the door. We then legged it out the front door.

I left Shane and Jason in bed  but their bedroom doors were closed. There were no flies upstairs that I could see.

I came back three hours later and there were hundreds of dead flies all over the work surfaces and floors, which were quickly vacuumed up. I have cleaned and disinfected every surface :yuck:

I just dont understand where they all came from. There are not many flies around at all outside. We sit outside for every meal and are never bothered, so I just have no idea why and how they got inside my house. Its seriously freakly and disgusting

Must admit, I noticed a few more flies than usual for the last couple of days, but nothing like you just mentioned !!

I've been meaning to get a plastic fly swat for years, and decided this week was the time !

But since I STOPPED using the Raid outdoor fly spray, (for the mozzies) they haven't come back

God knows what caused yours but hope it is a once off.
One fly must have got in and hatched a load of eggs all at once ..

I dont think these flies were just hatched though, they were big and nasty looking!!!!

I have cleaned every surface, vacuumed every conceivable area, and emptied all the bins.

If they come back again, I am moving out until professionsal deal with it

You're supposed to bury the bodies before they rot, not just leave them in bed :swat:

My hatred of flies has made me forget my dislike for chemicals. I only ever use bicarb and white vinegar for cleaning and yet today I had no problem blitzing my house with killer sprays. I even went out and bought more supplies in the event I need to get rid of more nasties

One of my books recommends rubbing lavender oil around door and window frames to repel all insects. I know what I will be doing tomorrow

Still think you had a nest inside you wouldn't have had that many flies come in overnight. When the nest we had hatched it was fully grown adult flies that came out. You must have had one somewhere in the kitchen or laundry which, I suspect, with all that chemical useage, is now well and truly dead !!!

You are probably right, but I just cannot work out where the nest could have been

I dont have food in the kitchen bin, it all goes down the insinkerator and I disinfect that every night as well as the kitchen sick drain.

I empty the bathroom bins daily too

This morning there were a few dead flies in the kitchen and laundry, so the chemical attack is obviously still working well

I would just love to know where they came from

You may never find out. Because our flies were in the ensuite I was able to find the nest easily !!! But it looked just like kitchen roll which had been moulded a bit to lots of fly shapes. Main thing is that they're gone :flowers:

could have just come from a scrap of food that has fallen behind something and that's it, hundreds of eggs laid on that and the result is all the flies before you know it all the flies
