My kids are off school today as the weather is really bad. I just wish i had found out earlier than 8am lol. I had no sooner woke them up when i found out that the schools were closed. Eldest leaves for school at 8 was ready in his uniform waiting for his lift to arrive, when she phoned to say his school was closed. He is now playing online with the xbox with is freinds.
The younger 2 are driving me up the wall with band hero, singing and banging the drums.
I just so wish our visa would hurry up and be granted.
Ive never felt colder, we are all wearing so many layers we look like michlen(sp) men as our heating system is rubbish and we cant afford to have the heating on very often during the day.
My poor husband is having to knock doors to try and sell his companies products, cos without any sales we have no money.
sorry for the winge, i just want outta here

:( :( :( :(

I know what you mean ... we had a miserable day yesterday as sheffield effectively closed down due to the snow :(

we leave for school at 7.45, its a 6 mile journey across sheffield. dropped them off only to be called back to take them home, by which point we were stuck in traffic that wasnt moving so i had to get out of the car and walk the mile round trip to herd them back to the car - oh, did i mention mal has been laid off work (there arent enough expletives in the world to relay my frustration) - so mal could them home with him, after dropping me at work. I was only half an hour late for work, which was good - but over the course of the day, patients were cancelling and staff were going early to get home ... I left work at 4.15 and had to walk the 6 miles home ... its now 1.30am and I hurt so much i cant sleep ...

as i was plodding home, the way i walked is usually heaving with traffic ... there wasnt a soul! If I passed a dozen people, and about 30 cars, that was the most. at a time and route that is one of sheffields busiest arterial routes ... well, it was deserted. I was angry and frustrated, and for about 5 minutes just balled my eyes out :blushing: - I just want to get out of this damned place that cant cope with anything other than a slight rainfall

I've just read that 16 inches are expected overnight down south. Crikey, Alex hoped to see snow while he was there, now if I can just get him to wish for a big lotto win too.

TC im in North Yorkshire for the time being, just waiting for our visa.

Sue i really do feel for you, having to walk so far in this weather it is certainly no joke, sorry to hear about Mal. I hear Manchester is just as bad being virtually cut off
My OH was in Harrogate and Skipton yesterday and nearly got stuck as he had to go to a farm. He is in Settle today, supposed to be measuring new windows for a bloke.
Schools still off and to be honest im prepared for them to be off all week now. Ive not been out of the house since Saturday.
Its still snowing here and the kids have decided to stay in bed and watch tv today, its warmer lol.
Im off for a bowl of porridge now to warm me up

bad down here too, hasn't stopped snowing since yesterday evening. It's supposed to freeze later, then more snow through to the weekend. Schools off which pleases the boys, dog is loving the walks in the snow as for me I hate the stuff, but did enjoy the walk over the woods with the dog earlier on. As much as I dislike the snow, it does make everything look pretty - until it turns to mush

its about 6 inches deep here - loads of schools closed still, but ours open  . we decided that as they forecast more snow this afternoon and below freezing temps, it would be sensible to stay off today - im on a day off thank goodness, i didnt get up until 11.30! as mal is off work, they may well end up staying off all week ... its just not worth the hassle and stress getting em the 6 miles to school.

im fed up :( :(

Poor Hevs and Mandy and Sue

I have to say it does nothing for me, sure its pretty to look at (in pictures) but the cold and snow just brings back horrible memories for me. I absolutely hate being cold and I would hate being anywhere with snow.

I remember being a child waiting for the school bus, and my feet being so frozen I could not actually feel them, and getting chilblains on them and on my hands too. No matter what gloves or socks or boots I wore, I always had problems with my feet and hands being absolutely freezing.

I never ever again want to experience anything like that.

I think Queensland is the right place for me

Me too. Up until I left I got chilblains every winter and could only get into one lot of footwear (my boots) until the summer. I could never live in that cold again. Whenever I feel homesick I just remember the winters...

Chilblains are one thing that I recall very vividly, when they get mentioned.
I used to suffer very badly from them, but they are now a thing of the past.
Instead my suffering consists of:
  • Having to walk about the house without a shirt on for a few weeks each year.
  • Having to put a cloth cover on the leather lounge to stop me sticking to it, for a few weeks each year.
  • Having to wear a cap when I go outside.
  • Having to burn mosquito coils on the patio each evening when we eat outside.
  • Having to sit in the swimming pool if it gets really hot.

Life is so difficult

Hmmm... Chilblains...

The Victoria Health website has a page on treating chilblains.. http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcarticles.nsf/pages/Chilblains

Can't find anything on the Queensland one though....

Have to say it's looking pretty bad now, going on a bit too long. Got a friend who should be flying back on Wednesday, she's already panicking about a) getting to Birmingham airport; b) how long beforehand she needs to get there after the last idiot bomb fail security upgrade and c) if the plane will actually take off.

I also can't help worrying about how many elderly people will have died by the end of it all. They just worry so much about paying the power bills and don't realise how quickly the hypothermia sets in

It's supposed to last well into next week and I'm really fed up with it now. Can't get the car out, but wouldn't anyway as the roads are awful around here - the main roads are ok its the side ones that are bad. Fed up with not seeing many people, my feet have blisters from my hardly worn heavy duty walking shoes and I'm slowing getting fed up. The saving grace is that the boys love it and are out nearly all day.

You can see some of the winter photos ive taken on my photo album on face book. It took me ages to get them on fb as im not very techno minded.
WE had snow most of last night and it started again at 11am and is still going, My kids are now fed up with the snow as its just too cold to go out and play. It was -11 here last night and its about -5 now.
Its now been over a week since i left the house, my OH has been out in the car with his job and brings in bits and bobs of shopping when its needed. It takes him an extra hour to get any where and a lot of his clients are in rural locations so he is not having a good time either.

Im hoping the weather will improve enough for the kids to be back at school on Monday, so i can back to the gym, but the forcast is not looking good
I can only remember it being this bad in the late 70's ad early 80's in the North East.

See, now those pictures show to me, without words, why I'm not living in the UK any more. The bright, sunny days, children playing happily, making snowmen, lobbing snow balls are fine and lovely to look at but those two pics??? Nah. It's not going to happen  I feel your pain Sue and Mandy (and anyone else who's now over it).

it's great for a few days, but when you can't go anywhere and the little local shop is doing a roaring trade so that it's shelves are constantly empty is a real drag.Thank goodness I still have a milkman who gets here in all weather.

and Anne yes its's deep, nearly lost the dog in it the other day - he thinks it's great fun

Snow covering Tharwa Bridge

It's snowing! Yes, Canberra did experience a light snow fall in the suburbs during the early hours of Sunday morning and more later in the afternoon.

Although not enough to make a snowman, but it was exciting watching the snowflakes fall.

There has been more snow falling on the mountains around the ACT which has caused a few road closures. Motorists are reminded that when roads are closed due to inclement weather we advise you to find alternate routes.

There were houses with 6 inches of snow in their yards; roads were closed due to heavy snowfalls. There also was the day off school, as the school busses weren’t running with the snow. I'm pretty sure local people were not really prepared for such a day as it caused lots of traffic and a bit of chaos in the town.

I never went skiing when I lived in London, but went twice when I lived in Melbourne and saw more snow than I had ever seen in the UK or Ireland.

First time we went to Falls Creek and second time to Mount Buller

There is plenty of snow to be seen in Victoria and NSW in winter here
