I do not have a lot of friends know a lot of them from Calorie King and have been on that site since 2004 so its a while. Not a really good advertisement for the site but its me I am hopeless at sticking to a plan :D Other friends are my real friends and some family. I do not post much on my wall just play the games and they take up time, never read my feed but everyone knows that that needs to :D |

Thank you for joining, everyone who has - OHippy Bridie and Mel and anyone else - all campaign updates are posted on there with links to a stored online file where you can read correspondence I've received or written. Colette is making quite a good recovery. If I think back to where she was this time last year it's miraculous. At her worst last January she was lying on her side fully quadriplegic able only to move her head voluntarily. She lost her voice (which for a Siamese is tragic as they are great talkers!) When I picked her up she was dead weight like a polythene bag full of sand or water, she flopped about and her weight shifted around in my arms uncontrollably so she would almost somersault out if I wasn't careful. She had to be held up and fed and water syringed. Toiletting was difficult. Enemas etc. Gradually she recovered the use of her front paws and was able to sit in a sphinx like position for a few seconds then she would fall to one side. Over the course of the autumn and winter she regained full integrity and use of her front paws and was able to pull herself along. Her voice returned :) Her balance improved incrementally until she was able to sit up straight. Her front paws and shoulders are now incredibly strong as this is how she gets along, pulling herself with her front legs, her back legs dragging behind her. Her mobility in her back legs is good and she can kick with them when I dangle her and the muscle integrity is returning because if I dandle her up high like you do a baby then bring her towards my chest the little legs kick and land on me and I can feel the resistance. If I stand her up and hold her she can walk a little way, awkwardly, but the back paws still curl a bit and sometimes the legs criss-cross. This was how the front ones were during recovery too. She can haul herself up the stairs walking fashion if I hold her. She cannot stand up of her own accord and can only stand for a few seconds in a very wobbly awkward way if I position her first. She is urinary incontinent and on laxatives to ease defaecation, with which she needs assistance. This can be distressing and difficult for both of us sometimes. She wears nappies or little bitch pants (for bitches on heat) with women's incontinence pads in. Lots of baths and I'm scratched all over like I self-harm or something! I remain hopeful that in time she will stand and walk again, but we just don't know as recovery is variable between all the cats. Some didn't make it at all, so we are "fortunate" or shall we say "less unfortunate" than others. She's on antioxidant supplements and B12 to assist remyelination of the nerve fibres (it's a bit like M.S. the way the nerve fibres demyelinated). Fortnightly acupuncture. Owners received compensation to a greater or lesser degree from the manufacturer but the way it was worked out and awarded was incomprehensible and unfair/inequitable across the board. Some owners fully compensated others still greatly out of pocket. Nothing more for those still shelling out for treatment, like me. It's been a most distressing, stressful and emotionally draining year, and I am gutted about what has happened to my beautiful little cat. She's such a determined little fighter and so good about it all it breaks your heart. Thanks for your care, all of you. XXXXX |

poor thing, cats are so independent too so she must hate all this. Still, as you say, things could be worse and the improvements must give you hope. |
