We have a fire alert and FESA are advising we activate our bushfire plan.

It seems to have moved behind us for now and the wind shouldn't change so we should be ok, but it's heading to an area where lots of people I know live so fingers crossed they are all ok. Lots of sirens and helitacs/bombers.

Our plan is to leave early, but as we are beside the school and they haven't evacuated I think we are ok, if the school evacuates, I will too.

Is it windy? If it were me I'd pick up the kids and head to somewhere like a suburban maccas till you're more sure... Don't rely on it not changing, cos thats what happened on Black saturday (sorry to go on :blushing: )

It's windy but not overly so, just checked the wind direction and the easterly is still in which is unusual for this time fo day, we need the sea breeze to keep it away, but so far we have no sight or smell. By the fesa info it could only have started aroun 3ks away from here. Lstest update says they have already saved one home and several sheds, where its currently heading is a huge area of 5acre bush blocks, half the people I know from school live there, I just called my friend to tell her as she lives just beside one of the roads that they have closed off, she's rushing home now to get the dogs etc and leave.......... it's all a bit scary.

I've got all my important stuff ina box and when I pick the kids up we'll go somewhere "safer" for a bit I think.

all well thanks...... from what I heard at school they got the slasher and the bulldozer in and widened te containment lines to keep it away from property, there were loads of people at school picking up their kids who would normally get the bus because at that stage it was still touch and go as t o whether they'd have to leave and they didn't want to be in the situation where they had to leave but their kids were heading home on the school bus! It was started by a tree on power lines and fanned by warm easterlies, so far as I know only 1 home had to be saved by the firies but loads of sheds were saved. The valley is full of citrus trees and a huge amount of the oranges you get hyere in WA come from there so I'm hoping it didn't go through there.

So as it turned out a bit of a fuss about nothing, but on the other hand a gust of wind in the other direction and who knows! I'm not used to these sorts of things!
