Obviously Leah is at secondary and we have done quite well getting second hand books where the students just stand in the hall saying " ˙ear 9 indo, you can have it for $10!"etc. Also always able to get stuff in the op shop (don't tell Leah!) and from clients etc for uniform, so not too bad. Anyway, this year Niall starts....BUT his school has just changed its uniform because it used to be amalgamated with 3 other schools (all coming under the umberella of Eummemering) but they have gone alone as they were the stand out school of the group I think. So, new identity. So all year 7's have to wear the new uniform. It is ALL logo-ed even the trousers so its going to cost a fortune....and! the bloody shirts are white! :she: Also the second hand book sale isn't the buns rush of Leahs school? oh no...its a form that you fill out saying yes thanks I'd like the second hand science book for $35 bucks.. thanks!!! $35! there again its $55 new, but still.... Oh but! there the $300 from the government...oo yeah, that'll buy a couple of shirts and some pants, thanks very much :more: Blimey....when I had babys I used to think ahhh well at least when they're out of nappies we'll save some money :lmao: :she: :she: sorry. Just needed to vent. :she: :she: Edited by Hevs, Nov 25 2009, 12:58:25 PM.

Uniform prices can vary wildly from school to school, but why oh why does everything have to have a bloody logo...it's ridiculous. We have been lookin at 2 schools and the uniform price will be the deciding factor as both schools charge the same fees and offer the same subjects. Why don't the schools offer iron on logo's and then at least you could buy cheaper items or take advantage of the sales. |

If they go to uni the books are even more expensive, silly little books over hundred dollars, son's science books very expensive. What used to annoy me was they would change books from year to year at high school so we had to buy new again the next year. |

Our year 9 booklist... http://internet.faithlutheran.qld.edu.au/Documents/Booklists/faith%20yr9.pdf But the text books are hired each year from the school. I think it was $75 last year. With uniforms, I feel that State schools should not have to have the expensive logo type uniforms. |

Zac books and stationery for Ormiston College next year Grade 6 $200, which is not bad, not much more than the state school. Once he gets to Grade 8, he can hire the textbooks and the cost is added on to the school fees. Older two at Carmel College, text book hire $60 per year  |

Flipping heck! Is the logo on the pants that obvious? or can you get away with a plain pair of black trousers or what ever colour they are? What a rip off! Get on the P&C and let rip at them for not reducing the cost of the 2nd hand books as that is wrong. Or put your own ad in their school newsletter asking if anyone has second hand books that you can buy directly from them....killing 2 birds with one stone as it makes the school look like rip off merchants and you might snavel a bargain! |

Most schools will allow you to pay for books and uniforms over the year (I know we do) so it might be worth checking out and spreading the pain a little. Have fun. We did it twice last year as Beth had to move school about a month into term 1 AAARRRGHHHHH We get Joseph moving to High School 2011 so time to start saving the pennies. Nicky |

Just been informed, we can buy the iron on school logo at $3.95 each, thats 4 polo tees, 2 sports tees, 2 pants, 2 skirts 2 sloppys and 2 sports shorts = $56 ish for 2 high school kids. $60 per year per child for book hire, I.D card each $15 plus the actual school fees and anythin else I might have overlooked....jeez it never ends. |

All the stuff for the top half of the body and the sports kit have the embroidered logo, bottoms don't but I am still expected to sell our stuff. Trouble is with the Head who died, the rules about uniform slipped just a bit and it's taking it's time to get it sorted again, so I'm busy telling new parents that the kids have to have this that and the other whilst older kids are walking past in incorrect stuff. Feel a fool to be honest. They are looking better now though. Only the Grade 12 School Council members need blazers and we give them that, either to keep forever or give back to the school so any kids attending ANZAC type events can wear one. Ours cost $80. |

blimey I get off lightly here. Luke is in year 10 - new school blazer £35.00, M&S trousers can't remember but about a tenner maybe £12. Shirts 3 for £10. PE shirt £6, shorts £4 rugby top 50p from school -used but in great condition don't pay for books, school provides text books but pupils are expected to cover them and give them back in condition in which they were given, which varies as one maths book last year was falling apart, but he did get given a new one after a few weeks. |

No Joke. They spread the cost over years 7 to 9 in the normal fees. I suppose they could say the camp is free, but ... well, we would know better :) Just been looking at the costs... Materials and Activities levy: Junior School (P - Year 6) $ 664 per annum Middle School (Year 7-9 $1,504 per annum Senior School (Year 10-12) $1,032 per annum So something between $472 and $844 per year towards the Middle school camp, or somewhere between $1,500 and $2400 for the total cost. This levy covers photocopying, acquisitions of learning technologies, and classroom/library consumables, excursions, all compulsory camps, visiting artists, swimming lessons, sports equipment, travel to sports carnivals etc. I am glad I am not on that camp. In fact, I worry about my little girl going on it, but... from previous years, it does seem to do wonders for all the kids on it. And she will be 14 by then. |

I understand your worries Erick. 4 weeks is a hell of a long time without family support. For some kids it could be great for others I'd imagine it could be a living hell, you have to wonder if it's not something that could have been split into 4 one week trips. I'd imagine it would be pretty hard on the parents too aftet the initial novelty of a child free house wears off. |
