Had a varying flight to UK. Perth to KL was very bumpy all the way (I think we followed the earlier storms of the day)and we were not allowed to take our seatbelts off once so I couldn't take advantage of the fact that there were 4 empty seats next to me and lie down. Arrived at KL at 10pm for a 11.55pm take off to London but were told our flight was delayed 45 mins. They still decided to take us through the boarding gate and into the holding area before then announcing that the flight would be delayed another 2 and half hours while the plane was being fixed :ooer: So we all sat and watched them fix our plane! Anyway we go away and I was sat in a window seat - nice if you're with family, a pin if you have to ask sleeping strangers to move to let you go to the toilet. Just about to start going over Germany and an old man two rows in front decided to take very ill, called a doctor from business class who started making noises about having to put the plane down. Anyway they obviously decided not to divert and the guy was still alive when we eventually landed. As we flew over the British coastline I felt quite patriotic and emotional and nearly burst into rampant strains of Jerusalem. Then the view of Britain disappeared under cloud until we were low enough to land, I saw the lines of standstill traffic, the rain coming down and the black sky and felt the nostalgia edging away. Arrived at Heathrow on my Australian passport and went through immigration control where I was quizzed about how long I was staying, why I'd come, where I was staying and that there were restrictions to my stay because I no longer held a British passport. So I've passed on the info to Alex for when he lands to make sure he says he won't be working etc etc. Arrived to rain on Friday, rained Saturday, rained this morning, seen a little blue this arvo but there are plenty of clouds around too. The boys are the most gorgeous things in the whole wide world. Ben is so clever, bright, articulate, well mannered and funny. Josh is spectacular. He has the most amazing sticky up multi-crowned hair you've ever seen. He'll never need hair gel! He sleeps, cuddles, feeds, sleeps. No tears, no fuss and is even threatening to give Granny his first smile :) Been to Marks and Spencer - bought bras, knickers, boots and jumpers. Have to say I'm still waiting to see evidence of this cheaper Britain where you can get loads of bargains. Gonna attack Tesco and Asda tomorrow. I've had cookies, and .......... duck and orange pate :ecstatic: :dance2: I'm loving seeing the English countryside though the houses are very small, everyone is on top of each other and the cars go so fast and cut right in front of each other willy nilly. I had absolutely the best morning this morning. Went round to Carl's and saw all three of my grandchildren together for the first time. Ben and Tilliee already know each other quite well and play fantastically well. I had a pathetic big grin on my face the whole time watching them play and giggle. Think this will be my most treasured memory. Right, I'm off to feed Josh. I've fallen easily back into the swing of changing nappies, bathing babies and putting active toddlers to bed   |

You won't find the huge bargains because you don't have your rose tints on  Never mind about the weather, the roads, the houses, the driving etc, you're seeing your family - that'll make up for all the rubbish. Have a great visit. |

Woop woop, the sun is shining today  Went to Costa Coffee yesterday and had a really rank latte :yuck: I was surprised that, considering it's the run up to Christmas, the shopping centre was really quiet. Do people in England just drive round and round in their cars all day long as the roads are always busy but not necessarily busy when you get to where you're going? I continue babysitting duties and have now taken on the early night feed 11.30 - 12 as Gemma is ready for bed by 9pm. I feed Josh then pop him into his crib in their room when I go to bed, then last night I had Ben in with me from 3am as he'd woken up cold and wanted to snuggle in with Granny. Gemma is a wonderful mother, totally patient yet still enforcing manners and rules. She has been mega conscious of not making Ben feel left out with having Josh that Josh has become almost exclusively mine when both boys are demanding attention so that Gemma always sees to Ben. Yet Ben is mine all mine when Josh is asleep :) Despite the lack of sleep I feel more relaxed and rested than I have for years. It must be showing in my face as Terry even surpassed himself on the webcam last night by telling me I looked pretty. We decided that he was either missing me more than he realised he would or that the camera plays tricks! I think that if I was rich I would be fairly happy living in the UK. I'd be able to do all the wonderful shopping I'd love to do and would be able to escape for sunny holidays when the grotty weather became too much. However, I'm not rich so I think I'd rather be poor in Australia than poor in England. At the moment I'm definitely wishing I was here for longer than 2 weeks. |

Enjoy your trip Anne. We were there last couple of weeks of October. It was certainly scary filling up my brother in law's Navara. Not that I'm a huge fan of shopping - but it certainly was nice visiting Debenhams & Marks & Spencer. |

My sentiments exactly,if I won lotto I'd definitely buy a place in England and zip between the two first class but if I have to work and struggle for cash then I'd rather do that in Oz ! |

Took Gemma and the boys to a Christmas tree farm place with a beautiful log cabin full of decorations and an open fire. Now this was a tradition that we used to do every year with our children when they were little. We'd go along, choosen our real tree, then while it was being strung up we'd take the children into the cabin and they'd each choose 1 decoration for the tree. Even now I could tell you which one of our children chose which decorations for our Christmas tree when it's up. Brings back very many happy memories, so did the same yesterday. Let Gemma choose a decoration for her house and Ben chose decs for him and Josh to hang on the tree. From the moment I stepped into the cabin I totally struggled to hold back the tears - a mixture of memories of days gone by, and sadness that I won't get to spend Christmas with my family here. A very hard day :upset: |

Is there a really strong reason why you can't extend your ticket to cover Christmas? Is Terry stuck here alone? That's obviously a strong reason but if I were you, I'd try and sort out a Christmas Day whilst you are there. Do all the bits, the kids won't care and probably have enough pressies to have two christmas days (most small kids get way too many pressies anyway). Do it all, it would be brilliant. |

Yes MP there is. The strong reason is the fact that I'm the only one earning any money atm and I am having to take unpaid leave while I'm away. |

Sounds like you are having a great time Anne. This si the only part of moving to Oz that I think is so difficult and that is leaving behind family and friends :( I was wondering who the little girl was in your photos on FB and now I know it's Tilly but how is she related? I'm lost on that one? |

Anne..... make a promise to Gemma and Carl and more importantly to yourself and Terry that you will be there for Christmas 2011. I know you're struggling and I know every cent is accounted for before you have earned it, but over 2 years I'm sure you could manage to put a wee bit away towards having a family christmas doing all the things that mean so much to you. In 2 years Josh will be big enough to want to have fun with granny and the new bub will be a toddler too and they'll all be old enough to be soooo excited about Christmas. Do the kids normally give you pressies at christmas and birthdays?? If so ask them not to and open an account they can pay some money into instead especially for your christmas trip. |

Can't see that happening. Was out and about today and things were pretty busy and stressful in general. I've only been here a week but it seems like a month already. |
